16-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of attempted criminal homicide and dozens of related charges after he shot two people in Park City Center on Sunday, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams announced Friday during a news conference at the Lancaster County Courthouse.
Jeremiahs Josiah-Alberto Sanchez, of Locust Street, got into an altercation with Elijah Deliz, 18, in the J.C. Penney wing near center court, pulled a stolen handgun and fired two shots, Adams said. One hit Deliz in the thigh and the other struck an uninvolved 30-year-old female standing next to a child, Adams said.
Then, an armed civilian shopping in the mall with his wife hurried over to the scene. Sanchez fired another round during the struggle that struck a wall less than a foot away from the civilian, who Adams only identified as a 50-year-old man. That prompted man to shoot three times at Sanchez, Adams said.
Sanchez’s gun came to rest on the floor, and the civilian kicked the gun away and held Sanchez at gunpoint until police arrived, Adams said.
The armed man's actions were justified and arguably saved lives, Adams said. He will not be charged. The mall has a policy prohibiting weapons, but Adams said that policy is trumped by state law.
The entire altercation lasted two minutes, Adams said. She called the situation, which involved 52 total uninvolved, innocent civilians, "unnerving." It's "equally disturbing" a 16-year-old with a stolen gun was responsible, she said.
"We are very fortunate more people were not hurt," Adams said.
Sanchez, who remains in the hospital and awaits arraignment, is charged as an adult, Adams said.
Besides the two counts of attempted homicide, Sanchez is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and 52 count of reckless endangerment — for endangering other people nearby during the shooting — and one count each of illegal firearms possession, firearms to be carried by a minor, carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property.
The investigation is ongoing, Adams said.

Today’s feel good story on many levels.
Immigration status?
Yup, shows that gun control laws and silly signs don’t work worth....
Great to see a DA with common sense!
Lancaster PA is Trump country.
Ugly little turd, ain’t he?
Jeremiahs Josiah-Alberto Sanchez: Now that he’s been convicted, will the media start referring to him as a “White Hispanic?”
16 years old - one of Obola’s “Dreamers” ???
Picture of alleged criminal....
Watch for updates with him pictured as a 9 year old as in earlier cases. Maybe giving a hand made birthday card to his grandmother.
Why, he’s just a baby./S
Yea, I always like the cap & gown pictures myself.
Innocent bystanders in city sidewalk shootings or drivebys could be anyone. A much discussed freeway rivalry shooting between two drivers left a little girl dead and her brother "struggling for life" in Detroit.
Your observation in your post was true.
From middle school...
Arguably? ARGUABLY?! Without a doubt.
As I understand PA law, the mall can trespass you if you stay after they ask you to leave while carrying. There is possibly an issue if the policy is posted and you ignore it as to whether that is a defiant trespass but not sure about that. In Philadelphia, they might try to charge you but in Lancaster County not a chance.
In Utah the police are still more likely to hand out medals to the armed citizen.
This story would be completely different if occurred in Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties.
Not really. The little scum is still breathing. All the more reason to train at the range.
It is a real feel good story!
Thank God for the Founding Fathers and the Second Amendment!
