Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, introduced a bill this week to transfer migrant detention facilities from border towns to ritzy areas where “Democrat elites host their cocktail parties,” such as Martha’s Vineyard.
“President Biden and Democrats need to step up to defend our southern border and support our heroic Customs and Border Protection officials,” he said.
The bill, dubbed the Stop the Surge of Unsafe Rio Grande Encampments (SURGE) Act, would help the federal government get control of the southern border after President Joe Biden “willingly surrendered” it to “dangerous criminal cartels” without any “thought given to the South Texas border communities like McAllen and Del Rio,” he said.
“That’s why today I am introducing this crucial legislation to alleviate the massive overload at the southern border by establishing new ports of entry in Democrat-led communities such as North Hero, Vermont, where Bernie Sanders spends his summers, and Martha’s Vineyard, where Democrat elites host their cocktail parties,” Cruz said in a statement.
If D.C. Democrats “had to endure even a fraction of the suffering” facing the “families, ranchers, and small businesses” located near the border, the Biden administration would have no problem enforcing immigration laws or building a border wall, Cruz added.
Cruz’s bill would open up 13 new immigration processing centers in different communities across the country, including Martha’s Vineyard, Governor’s Island in New York, and Palo Alto, California.
The bill would also mandate that “all illegal aliens encountered at Border Patrol Sectors in Texas be transferred to these new ports for processing” and “require insulated communities to help shoulder the burdens of their preferred open-border policies.”
Last month, Cruz blasted Democrats for caring more about the migrant crisis under the Trump administration than the Biden administration.
“Let’s see AOC cry in front of the Biden cages. Let’s see Joe Biden or Kamala Harris or [White House press secretary] Jen Psaki say ‘there is no border crisis’ as we stand in front of the Biden cages,” he said. “They are lying and they’re counting on the media to cover up their lies, and it’s incredibly cynical and it’s wrong.”
And it wouldn't be a burden on the schools, hospitals, and law enforcement--just like it isn't in those communities on the southern border.
Cruz has his good points but doing this isn’t one of his better choices of fighting. He has let down a lot of people because he keeps screwing up or wasting time.
People on the Vineyard who service liberal ‘elites’ are liberals too... Let’s make it uncomfortable for ALL democrats - like they do to us. House 60,000 illegals down the road from Obama...

Open a processing center in Chilmark, right at the intersection of Menemsha Road and State Road.
This is brilliant!
I agree. 2016 was an ugly primary but Cruz in defeat came around to be one of MAGA's staunchest supporters and a stalwart conservative who isn't afraid of pissing off the woke mob.
After Cruz tried to illegally conceal campaign loans from Goldman Sachs, I lost all faith that he is an upstanding conservative.
I am fine that he took the loans since his wife worked there, but to conceal them as to not upset his supporters indicates he would hide other things from his supporters rather than being transparent.
Cruz is becoming more and more establishment Republican and keeps sliding down my list of favorites.
Great idea now if we just had the money people in the game for the buses.
Well I think it’s impossible for anyone in Congress to have a clean sheet. Their game goes for blood one way or another. But yes, Cruz slide off the regard I once I had for him...even so he’s still good at what he does well....when he chooses to use his skill.
Let’s,do,it !!!
