On Tuesday morning, Mayor London Breed announced a new, privately funded reward of up to $100,000 leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals involved in organized crime rings, which the mayor's office says fuels automobile burglaries.
The reward is funded by "private donors in the hospitality and tourism industry," per a press release. The mayor's office did not immediately return a request for more information about these "private donors."
According to the release, the San Francisco Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies have identified "fewer than a dozen regular auto burglary crews responsible for the large majority of auto burglaries that have plagued Bay Area cities in recent years."
More than $225,000 in reward money has been raised, the mayor's office said. Only those that "provide accurate and transparent information will be compensated up to $100,000."
“The frequent auto burglaries in San Francisco are not victimless crimes, they have real financial and emotional consequences for the victims and we’re continuing to work to hold people who commit these crimes accountable,” said Breed in a statement. “These break-ins hurt our residents, especially working families who do not have the time or money to deal with the effects, as well as visitors to our City whose experiences are too often tarnished after an otherwise positive experience."

I guess they’re giving Social Workers new powers these days.
So if a junkie breaks into your car and you catch them you are just SOL, but if an “organized crime ring” does it you in for a big payday?
“Up to”. Who decides the amount?
“arrest AND conviction”???
Ha! With the marxist DA they have? He’d never bring charges, ergo there will never be a conviction. That $100k will never be claimed.
This is SO pathetic. The city defunds police, hires a pro-criminal Marxist DA, finds themselves in deep crime doo-doo, and has to turn to a PRIVATE reward system to try to get crime under control.
Why the hell should private money be used to perpetuate a thoroughly rotten, corrupt criminal system that coddles criminals?
“Easy money” - for the crime rings.
Get some bum off the street to break in your car, turn him in, Bob’s your uncle.
For that kind of money, lawless types may hire a known car burglar to burgle somebody, the organizer tells police, the ‘burglar’ gets arrested and quickly released. The $100K will be split up two ways. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
Its too late. How do you restore social trust, especially in large cities where everyone is a stranger, once its been broken?
You can only minimize and mask the problemm with intense policing and strong punishment, but of course people like Breed are doing the exact opposite.
Mayor, just start arresting and prosecuting the people we all watch doing it.
Don’t tell us to just file a report.
Arrest and prosecute good grief what does it TAKE
My wife and I took only public transportation when we visited there two years ago.
It was due to the tremendous car break-in rate we’d read.
You can’t fix Stupid.
If you really want to stop the criminal gangs, Publish Thier Picture and Names and addresses and Offer a $500 Bounty on thier heads, Dead or Alive.
Cheaper, Faster and will absolutely Work
If they were worried about car break-ins, they would start at the beginning with shoplifting and defecating in the streets.

Clint Eastwood was already over 40 when he made Dirty Harry in 1971.
Sounds like the SF ruling class are finally been impacted.
“Porsche and Mercedes for everyone”
Exactly right. There is no possibility at all of Weather Underground scion Chesa Boudin convicting anyone of a car break-in. Breed’s offer is thus phonier than a three-dollar bill.
A .45 reward will most certainly help. Except remember that when you are unfortunate enough to be in liberal land, the perp is always innocent and the victim is guilty.
So, double tap and run like hell.
Someone should tell they mayor.....
“It looks like someone broke into my car. And by the way - there’s a dead body with a double tap next to it. I can’t figure it out.”
What is really telling that this was funded by the tourism/hospitality industry. That tells us what people here and other similar places have been saying all along that cities that are soft on crime, etc. Will kill off any tourism, tradeshows, etc.
Of course, all the experts said that wasn’t possible and told us how this will make these cities more livable, just, etc. Of course with the city throwing the police under the bus multiple times they likely have a little interest in being proactive along with leftist district attorneys who refuse to prosecute criminals so this won’t make a difference in probably only make things worse.
