Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a new state law Thursday that focuses on students' access to school meals, with provisions around free breakfast and lunch as well as unpaid meal debt.
The new law also takes aim at a practice known as "lunch shaming," prohibiting schools from publicly identifying or taking punitive action against students who have unresolved debt for school meals.
"The new law is both timely and critical because it boosts federal nutrition dollars to schools across Massachusetts, and keeps children out of what should be an 'adult only' conversation on school meal debt," said Patricia Baker, a senior policy analyst at the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute. "But we know that more work needs to be done, at both the state and federal level, to ensure that no child is food insecure."

The “No Child’s Behind Left Alone” program.
The Michael Jackson Memorial “No Child’s Behind Left Alone” program.......................
I dunno what’s wrong with some parents, but when my wife was working as special ed assistant she kept snacks in her drawers to give kids before they went home, because that was likely the last food they’d get until their school breakfast the next morning. Some of the kids were out and out feral.
Much as I hate the idea of ‘free stuff,’ free lunches and breakfasts for some of these kids seems like a good idea, because that’s most of the food they’ll get that day.
“unresolved debt for school meals”
We never had this problem, because if you didn’t have cash or a free lunch card, you didn’t get lunch.
Of course, some teacher or administrator would just buy that kid lunch and then probably talk to their parents, but nobody got lunch on credit.
What interface? EBT has nothing to do with school meals in Fairfax County, Va. I can pick up a week’s worth of breakfasts and lunches every Wednesday at many Fairfax County schools and feed myself with it all. There’s no checking IDs or verifying the number of kids I claim to get the weekly “meal kits”. This has been going on for well over a year now. Before they re-opened the schools, you could pick up meals every day. Now that my kids are back “in person”, they get free lunches at school. I never qualified for that before. We used to have to maintain accounts for the kids to pay. No one pays anything anymore.
LOL, was that Rush Limbaugh who coined that?
No, it was a Red Badger original...................
Good application...:)

So, not only is communist Massachusetts spending other people’s money to support their communist regime’s goals, they’re using other people’s money from other states.
How generous of them. Taking lessons from CA, again.
I miss the United States of America.
I have some ice cream and you can’t afford it cause you are on the welfare.

taking something without paying is theft.
theft without consequence is not theft. it’s charity.
don’t complain if people see it for what it is... a free charity lunch.
penalize them or STFU
Thanks. I'm glad someone understands the issue which is school administrators acting like the bullies they say they condemn.
As for 'straightening out FReepers' I don't believe I did. They're still using this as a platform to voice their own slide agenda without addressing the topic; publicly shaming and humiliating children for the forgetfulness or negligence of the parents.
Best regards.
“Basically, free lunch for all”
You wouldn’t want parents to have to pay for their own kids’ meals if it means no more cigarettes, beer, lottery tickets, manicures, hair weaves, etc., etc. It’ll just have to go on the taxpayers’ tab.
Free shit for the free shit army
No strings attached!
I wonder how many times that really happens. Absurd that they would throw away food.
“Feed your own damn kids, it’s a school, not a restaurant!”
Don’t breed’em if you can’t feed’em!
