A judge late Friday issued a temporary restraining order against the Chicago police union president, prohibiting him from making public statements that encourage members not to report their COVID-19 vaccine status to the city.
Cook County Circuit Judge Cecilia Horan ruled there was potential irreparable harm if local Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara persisted in making such statements. City attorneys argued they were tantamount to him advocating “sedition” and “anarchy” because he was directing members to disobey an order from their superiors.
It was the latest twist in the high-stakes standoff between Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the local police union over the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. With both sides accusing the other of illegally risking the safety of the city over the issue, the fight shifted into the courts Friday with dueling lawsuits.
Lightfoot asked the courts to intervene after the union chief told members to disobey Friday’s deadline to report their vaccine status. The local Fraternal Order of Police in turn filed its own lawsuit against the city, mayor and police Superintendent David Brown that seeks to force arbitration over the matter.

Now I’d call a closed door meeting, and tell every single cop to call out sick.
I hope the judge drinks acid. The cops are already discouraged. The box has been opened and they cant close it.
Lori is asking the officers who object to giving vax info to the City to keep working without pay. I don’t see how she can threaten to withhold their pay and expect them to work.
So, the issue is whether or not the union that represents them can talk about the situation. Therefore, I think this gag order is foolish and unconstitutional, but judges give out gag orders often, although usually to restrain publicity that will prejudice a case. I don’t see that as relevant here. But, I’m not an attorney.
So many judges unschooled. What do we do?
Some judge tells a union leader to shaddap? This could get good.

Gee I’m glad no Chicago cops can learn about this, that would really be a problem for the judge.

All he needs to do is call a stewards meeting. It’s a private assembly and the stewards will relay the union position.
WTF? Judge got it backwards. The irreparable harm is for those that got the shot. It can’t be undone.

This is novel... a judge ordering a union chief not to do what union chiefs do... order work slowdowns. Maybe Democrats will re-evaluate their support of public employee unions?
