Police have arrested a 25-year-old Somalian man on suspicion of murdering the Conservative MP Sir David Amess, who was stabbed multiple times at his constituency surgery.
Sir David, the MP for Southend West in Essex, was attacked on Friday at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
Paramedics tried for two hours to save the 69-year-old father-of-five, but he died of his injuries and figures across the political spectrum have paid tribute to the "irreplaceable" MP.
Essex Police said a 25-year-old man had been arrested, and officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
It is understood the man being held on suspicion of murder is of Somalian origin. A witness who described seeing him being taken away by the police said he was calm and compliant.
Security sources confirmed that the suspect was believed to be a Somalian, but police were still seeking to establish a motive for the attack.

The vaunted Euro EMS system again. In America it’s considered a failure if you aren’t in a full on ER within that golden hour. I mean with surgeons, labs, blood banks, the whole enchilada.
In Europe, you spend two hours getting worked on by paramedics AT THE SCENE. The Euro morons do not do the stabilize and swoop to an ER model.
Same thing happened with Princess Diana at her wreck. She was talking when they got to her. Took them 40 minutes to decide to remove her from the car. Then she went into cardiac arrest and they did CPR and got her started again. They put her into the ambulance and sat there for 23 minutes before they decided to roll. Got to an ER almost two hours after the wreck, right downtown in a major city.
Euros are backwards in so many ways. They really are. Good chance that if either of these events happened in Albuquerque, they would have survived.
I’m sorry, but I am sick of seeing dipst christians and their pathological altruism getting us all killed. Whereas Islam is muscular, aggressive and evil, Christianity is passive, weak and naive and has sown the seeds of western civilisation’s suicide.

Sir David Amess was too good for this world.
I knew it was an adherent of the “religion of peace” when I first saw the story.
