A study released this month found that the number of concealed carry permits has increased almost 50 percent since 2016, reaching an all-time high.
The 75-page report, by Dr. John R. Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center, Carlisle E. Moody, Research Director and Professor at the College of William & Mary; and research associate Rujun Wang, was released on Oct. 11. It found that no less than 21.52 million people had active carry permits, averaging out to about 8.3 percent of the adults in the general population.
This percentage shifted greatly among states, for instance, with Alabama having 32 percent of adults with permits while some restrictive "may issue" states like California, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, and Rhode Island all had abysmal rates of less than one percent with permits.
"If the Supreme Court strikes down the 'proper cause' requirement in the eight May Issue states, we estimate that there could be at least 2.3 million more concealed handgun permits," notes the report. "The eight states with that rule have issued permits to only 1.24 percent of their adult population compared to 10.77 percent for the other states."
Six states – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Texas – have over a million permit holders. The Sunshine State had the greatest number of permits in the country, topping 2.5 million, while Hawaii had the least, with zero (0).

...and this number doesn’t seem to include the folks carrying without permits in the “constitutional carry” states..
A little over 10% of the population over 21 years old, I think.

Even though I live in MS which is a Constitutional Carry State, I decided to get a Conceal Carry Permit because I drive into LA quite a lot.
The LA DEMONCRAT Governor Vetoed the Constitutional Carry Bill sent to him earlier this Year, but at least they Honor out of State Conceal Carry Permits.
I would like to know the true # of people who carry under the radar.
My wife said she knows at least 3 women who carry but have no ccw. One is her 80+ year old aunt who has carried for 25 years.
and 100 million more want one, but are denied by UNCONSTITUTIONAL random, arbitrary rules and laws enforced by Prog/Left/Dem/Socialist politicians.
Look at Australia for a modern example of what happens when a population is disarmed.

This misses the point, maybe in the article, that something like 21 states are now constitutional carry and you don’t need a permit to carry concealed.
Ammo is still pretty pricey.
Arizona among others requires nothing to carry concealed within the state.
Noted, probably scares the hell out of them.
Considering that Alabama only has around 5 million people, it appears we are holding up our end of things. Actually the number carrying is probably higher. I know quite a few folks that carry with no permit.
