After more than a year of pain, tests and finally a match, the Eastlake man is still just days away from getting a new kidney and a new lease on life.
But it’s all up in the air now thanks to a new Cleveland Clinic policy requiring COVID-19 vaccines for organ transplant recipients and donors.
The Cleveland Clinic announced the policy earlier this week, just days before Mike Ghanem was set to undergo surgery for a kidney transplant.
Mike Ghanem, 52, was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease when he was 27. He’s had ups and downs in his health over the years, but in March 2020, it took a turn for the worse. He had a large blood clot that sent him to the hospital.
“The kidneys were so deep with cysts, that they squeezed and squeezed and compressed his main vein, causing him to suffocate and go down his leg,” said Debbie Ghanem, wife of Mike Ghanem.
Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic told Al Ghanem there was no time to lose — Mike Ghanem needed a kidney transplant.
But on Friday — five days before the operation — the Cleveland Clinic called Ganims to tell them it was being suspended because George had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, even though Mike Ganim is the same.
“I don’t know what that means. They called Mike and told them how sorry they are. The surgeons are frustrated because this is a decision that came from the highest level,” said Debbie Ghanem.

Which means that it came from a bureaucrat and is not medically based.
so they guy is going to let himself die instead of getting the vaccine? not a very bright move.
All choices have risks, getting the vaccine has (some) risk, not getting a kidney when yours have already failed is a much bigger risk.
What disturbs me is not the decision the guy makes on the vaxx but the Nuremberg Code violation of those attempting to put the guy under duress to get the vaxx.
That is a blatant international human rights violation, and should disturb you as well.
If you agree with this tyranny, then you are just as evil as the murdering Nazis at the Cleveland Clinic.

As long as you agree with everything they say you get a to work, get food get healthcare and fuel, and get to roam free. If you have a different point of view - then starve and die. Patriots need to figure out how to meet and plan and get strength from numbers
