When I lived in Minnesota in the mid-70’s, there used to be a bar on the lake that held an annual wet tshirt contest each summer. Does that quaint local custom still exist, or has that gone into apology mode?

From the article:
The company dropped the "moccasin" from its logo in 2008, and has removed the word from the majority of its corporate messaging and will now refer to only "Minnetonka" going forward.
From Wikipedia:
The name "Minnetonka" comes from the Dakota Sioux mni tanka, meaning "great water".
Long story short: THE COMPANY IS STILL APPROPRIATING INDIAN CULTURE!
In other words: The "Woke" Brigade won't be happy until the company renames itself "Generic Footwear Company."

It’s pretentious and it flattens out the popular culture. Removes individual and imaginative ways to package your product. What, should all products be sold in colorless, image free white boxes with the same black generic fonts?
To: lee martell
Available in one flavor only. If you're lucky.

Because that’s the way it was done in the old Soviet Union?

Intelligent people who are free of leftist mental issues understand that adopting Native American art forms is, in fact, giving tribute and recognition to the Native Americans.

I suggest the CEO commit suicide in public in penance. And only purebred Mexicans eat at taco joints. And all those things whites invented? Gonna suck if you ain’t white, but it is only fair.

"We recognize that our original products, some of which are still sold today, have been appropriated from Native American culture. Not just the products have been appropriated; we have also come to learn that even the word “moccasin” is an anglicization of the Ojibwe word “makizinan.” We first publicly acknowledged our appropriation in the summer of 2020, but it was long overdue. We deeply and meaningfully apologize for having benefited from selling Native-inspired designs without directly honoring Native culture or communities. While Minnetonka has evolved beyond our original product set, moccasins remain a core part of our brand, and in 2020 we began to step up our commitment to the culture to which we owe so much. We are dedicated to honoring our commitment to Native American communities with our actions going forward."

I’m flabbergasted. I thought Minnetonka was a Cherokee owned business. Lord knows every “giftshop” in Cherokee, North Carolina sold them years ago. Their moccasins were the only shoe my daughter would wear for years because they didn’t hurt her feet.

Wow! So if have to stop using indian things, the First Natives will have to stop using automobiles, flashlights, guns, and fish hooks!
If I were them I would give whites a permission slip to appropriate or they are going to be walking everywhere!
