Russia has unambiguously stated its position that the self-ruling island of Taiwan is a part of the mainland-based People's Republic of China, as strategic partners Moscow and Beijing seek to further align their positions regarding geopolitical issues across the globe.
During his visit Tuesday to the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared Moscow's stance on the issue.
"Russia, like the overwhelming majority of other countries, considers Taiwan to be part of the People's Republic of China," Lavrov said. "We have proceeded and will proceed from this premise in our foreign policy."
Only 14 countries today, along with the Vatican, have diplomatic relations with Taipei. Even the U.S. maintains only informal relations with the island nation since recognizing Beijing in 1979, three decades after the Communist victory in a civil war drove nationalists into exile across the Taiwan Strait. The Soviet Union quickly sided with the new fellow Communist power, though Moscow and Beijing would soon develop their own feud that lasted the remainder of the Cold War.

Doesn’t cost them anything does it?
of course Russia would say that - after signing a mutual defense agreement with China and all
but it also works to their own self interest in bolstering their own claim to the Japanese Kurils islands - an ongoing conflict
The junta in Beijing is illegitimate and criminal.
I wonder if the Russian soldiers like to eat General Tso’s Chicken as much as the Chinese soldiers do?
Yep. If anything, China is part of Taiwan.
I’m all for “re-unification” once the CCP goes away.
And, btw, CCP is just the China’s local version of: CIA, DEMs, federal and many state repubs, FBI, MSM and pedowood here.

Hasn’t the US “official position” been (ever since Nixon’s trip to China and our subsequent recognition of them) just exactly that? We have very carefully avoided formally recognizing Taiwan as China and have supported the idea that the relationship between China and Taiwan is a matter between them.
Oh joy. We increasingly see the results of DC continually screwing with Russia since Hillary was SOS and tried to launch a color revolution in 2011. Obama the homo president was very hostile to them over the anti-homo recruitment laws.
Then DC pretended Russia put Trump in office.
After 9/11 they were the first nation to jump in on our side, and they offered us heavy support for the war in Afghanistan. We got the Northern Supply route, we got free use of old Soviet air bases. They warned us about the Boston bombers.
Now after a decade of DC hostility, they never miss a change to stick a thumb in our eye.
XO in for a surprise if Taiwan have nukes
All thanks to the mornon NeoCons for pushing Russia & China together into a strategic partnership never before possible.
Moron NeoCons.
Ya, there you go. Let’s see Putin claim Alaska is part of Russia.
Would a prolonged armed conflict between Chania and Taiwan weaken the mainland to the benefit of Russia?
Thanks, Joe!

Yes. A junta that bought a junta.
“If anything, China is part of Taiwan.”
Indeed - Taiwan is China and the Chinese mainland is occupied by communist usurpers - who have never controlled the Taiwan island - they have zero legitimate claim to it. The Chinese mainland belongs to Taiwan (China), not the other way around.
Argentina still claims the Falklands belong to them, even though Argentina never controlled those islands - ever.
