Irish author Sally Rooney is at the centre of a controversy after refusing to allow her new book to be translated into Hebrew by an Israeli company.
The acclaimed writer said it was in support of calls to boycott Israel over its policies towards the Palestinians.
She said it would "be an honour" to have Beautiful World, Where Are You translated into Hebrew by a company which shared her political position.
A senior Israeli minister said such boycotts were a form of anti-Semitism.

(yes, sarc).
Also, let's not forget that Ireland have been buddy-buddy with Hamas and the PLO all the way back to the days of The Troubles...
Will she let it be translated into Chinese? If so, why?
Sally who?
Who is this idiot?
“Agree with my politics or you can’t give me money.” Sound business model, my dear. Sometimes these little problems have a way of just solving themselves...
That makes sense -- boycott a group of people who, historically, have maintained a very high level of literacy and appreciation of literature for centuries, and cozy up to a billion violent savages who are clearly not readers.
GMAFB. This is not a boycott in any sense of the word. Boycotts are where you refuse to BUY products from Israel or wherever. Refusing to SELL ice cream or have your book translated and sold in Israel is not hurting anyone but yourself. I’m fine with that. Take your book and a container of Ben and Jerry’s and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Not seeing the movie, either.
I hope stooping to personal insults makes you feel better. I know full well that you don’t like me. I also know full well that you are no fan of Israel. But if you think you are going to convince me with those sorts of statements, I’m afraid you’re wasting your time.
I get the feeling that, were we back on the grammar school playground, if you were bigger than I was, you would likely be shoving my face into a mud puddle or a pile of dog turds to prove your point.
I don’t know you from Adam, let alone have an opinion about you, although this whiny post has not done you credit imho. As for not liking Israel, that would be strange, seeing as I live there, as you might know by reading my profile.
What I don’t like are EU companies who are only too happy to make money selling their products here, but then piously virtue signal how horrible we supposedly are to the poor palis here in Judah and Samaria, and make noises about BDS.
Boycotts are not refusing to sell, but refusing to buy. WH Auden said that imprecise language leads to insincerity. I wholeheartedly agree. So calling a refusal to market her book in Israel a “boycott” must be corrected.
I hope more Euro-idiots refuse to sell their products here. The less the merrier.
As to whether her refusal to sell it here is “anti-Semitic,” I am not eager to use that term willy-nilly. It’s imprecise, because it fails to differentiate between a snob who only wants Christians at his country club, and an unrepentant Nazi who wants to annihilate all Jews. The former is an anti-Semite, and the latter is a Jew-hater, and might be Semitic himself, for example an Arab or an Armenian. I don’t think the author in question is a Jew-hater, per se. Whether or not she wants me in her country club is a moot question. I wouldn’t belong to any club that would have me as a member (Groucho said that; I won’t claim it as an original thought of mine, but it is my actual sentiment).
