Spurs’ Popovich Slams Italian-American Support for Columbus Day: Like Germans Being ‘Proud of Hitler’

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich attacked Columbus Day on Friday, slamming his “backward” hometown for marking the day while accusing the famed 15th-century explorer of initiating a “new world genocide” and branding Italian-American support for honoring the day akin to Germans “proud of Hitler.”

After the first-ever presidential proclamation for Indigenous Peoples’ Day — which honors Native American peoples — was issued by President Joe Biden on Friday, Popovich praised the move, which has long been pushed by the left, calling it “appropriate, important, needed and all those sorts of things.”

“Columbus?” he asked mockingly. “I mean he initiated a new world genocide; that’s what he did.”

“Beginning with him and what he set in motion, what followed, [was] the annihilation of every indigenous person in Hispaniola, which was Haiti and the Dominican Republic today, that’s what he did,” he continued.

“He took slaves, he mutilated, he murdered, and we’re going to say ‘slash’ and honor him?” he added. In March last year, the outspoken coach attacked then-President Trump over the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic, accusing him of being a “coward” because of his COVID policies, yet found himself unable to criticize China for its crackdown on the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong or its long record of human rights abuses.

In 2019, he stated that former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick “was very courageous” for starting the NFL anthem-kneeling movement. He also called his protest of the anthem “a very patriotic thing.”

In 2017, in response to then-President Trump denouncing national anthem protests, he called the U.S. “an embarrassment,” adding that white people are privileged and “especially” need to be made “uncomfortable” for any change to be made.

Columbus sought a new trade route to “the east” (China) but bumped into the Americas.

Hitler sought lebensraum (”living space”) by conquering the countries to the east and exterminating or enslaving their people.

Columbus’ discovery was followed by the overthrow of despotic regimes that had subjugated tribes from Mexico to Peru. These regimes were replaced by feudalism, the same form of government practiced in Spain. Queen Isabella thus became known as Isabella “the Catholic” (or, universal) for treating all her subjects equally. (We, in the west, subsequently moved from feudalism to liberal democratic capiitalism.)

Hitler’s invasion of the east involved the replacement of one form of totalitarian government by another form of totalitarian government, and the murder by deprivation of millions of Poles, Ukrainians, Russians and other “lesser” people.

The Aztecs practiced a pagan religion, a state-religion, whose ceremonies involved the ritual slaughter and sacrifice of many of those they subjugated. This was replaced by the Catholic form of Christianity that teaches that all men are created in the image of God whose only begotten son became man and died so all can be saved.

The state-religion of Russia taught that all men are nothing but evolved worms of no meaning or consequence in themselves, to be used by the state for its purposes. Hitler replaced this with a pagan-religion/pseudo-scientific theory of evolution that there is a master race and other, inferior races that could and should be subjugated.

Popovich, in his attack on Columbus, shows that he worships the false religion of the intellectual elites. A false religion not unlike Stalin’s communism or Hitler’s naziism. The twist on totalitarianism of Popovich’s religion is that it worships an elite, treating it as a master race, and treating the common people as so many deplorables and irredeemables, to taxed and regulated as the elite see fit.

Because the elites need a majority of the vote until they consolidate power, they use racist and other forms of hate to divide the common people from each other. The common people who vote for the elites should be warned: how long will the elite provide them with generous welfare benefits when their votes are no longer needed?

The question facing us and the world at this time, is whether we, the common people, will join together in solidarity to overthrow the dictatorship of the elites.

God, in his wisdom, has given us different gifts and different amounts of gifts, whether it be brains or beauty, personality or athleticism. These gifts are not to make anybody master over others, for we have but one master who is the living God. Rather, the purpose of these gifts are to serve God by reflecting his glory, and to serve others.

I’m thinking the people he met were as curious about him and his crew and their fascinating ship, as he was about them.

Among the people he brought was an expert in languages, Luis de Torres. The fellow knew many languages, but not the language of the natives. So, he interacted with the natives and learned their language.

There were some problems. When Columbus left a party of about forty on that island (to continue his explorations), the natives fell on them and killed all forty.

This attack is sometimes said to be justified as retribution for men of Columbus courting or simply buying girls and young women (a practice of the natives). Of course, any attack on whites is always o.k., and buying and selling girls and young women is o.k. for native people, even executing people in religious ceremonies; but, courting or buying a girl or a young woman is an unforgivable sin for a white man.
