Vermont to use COVID money to move vulnerable mobile homes

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — The state of Vermont is hoping to use $5 million in COVID-19 relief funds to help buy out and move mobile homes in areas at risk of flooding.

The plan builds on lessons learned during flooding from Tropical Storm Irene in 2011, and aims to assist mobile home residents with finding a new place to live if they accept the buyout, said Vermont Emergency Management Hazard Mitigation Officer Stephanie Smith.

The task is made more complicated because many mobile home residents own their homes, but rent the land where they are located. Many older homes can’t be moved, and the federal buyout program often doesn’t completely cover the full cost of moving.

Vermont has wide discretion over how it spends the more that $2.7 billion in American Rescue Plan Act funding it’s expected to receive.

Why don’t they just give the money to their Commie Uncle Bernie?

Any bets that the communist have already gone in and bought up a lot of those mobile homes before the buyout plan was announced? Bernie Sanders’ family members have probably already bought a dozen mobile homes which will be bought at lavish prices. I wonder if the inbred Biden spawn bought up some mobile homes there too. After all, you cannot make a living wage as an artist!

Every single dollar that goes to states from the Federal government has absolutely zero oversight, IMO.

They just do what they want, and give the finger.

If asked what moving trailers in flood zones has to do with Covid relief, they will say “Underprivileged people live in these areas in trailers that could be flooded. That prevents them from getting their Covid vaccination, so we will move them out of those flood zones.”

The exceedingly rare (usually non-existent) Federal auditor will simply say “Okay.” and that is the end of it.

This stupidity, idiocy, lack of accountability and oversight results in waste and graft that runs through every single program from highway funds to food stamps to SS Disability.

One should look at a politician like Nancy Pelosi who is worth $120 million dollars, and rightly wonder how she got that much money.

Just hard working Americans, I am sure.

They must be too close to properties owned by one or more of the Vermont elite class. 😊

That lady has six words in her title. That’s gotta be some kind of record. I say spent some of that relief money to throw her a party.

Instead of moving mobile homes from flood prone areas on the NC coast the owner’s use their FEMA money to elevate them on concrete blocks 6’ off the ground.

I think you may be on to something. Property at risk of flooding sounds like it is near the beach, just like Obama's new digs.

It will be interesting to find out if the buyouts are mandatory!

How is that covid relief? As with everything else they have done, the crisis is just an excuse for them taking our money and using it for their purposes.

That’s my thought as well.

The elite probably don’t want to see trailer homes near their property as it would bring down their property values.

Interesting...I just did a search when I was posting, and came across the $320 million, a $200 million, and a $120 million figure.

Funny, there were a boatload of “fact check” returns (all at top of Google, of course) and all of them were ball-washing Nancy Pelosi, driving the numbers down and down.

They would say “FACT CHECK: Pelosi was not Speaker of the house from W date to X date, it was instead Y date to Z date...”

As if it would make a warm cup of spit difference.

For my part, I approach it the same way I approach the number of their own citizens the Chinese Communists have murdered since they took power, and those numbers range from 40 million to 120 million.

I tend to believe the number is closer to 120 million, but when I have a discussion with anyone about it (particularly Leftists) I cite the low number.

I do that because if you say the high number, they will sidetrack, disparage, and discount your point on that basis. So I just use the low number and take that moonbat tactic off the table.

Granted, there is a difference between 40 million and 120 million, but...imagining murdering 40 million of your own citizens alone makes even the Soviets look like pikers, and the Nazis like complete amateurs at murder.

They must be too close to properties owned by one or more of the Vermont elite class.

That is probably the real motivation. It is really a bummer to drive up from Manhattan to the weekend house in Vermont and see some locals living closer to the river. Better to get rid of them, their pickup trucks, and their mobile home so that they are safe and the New Yorkers can now say their house is a waterfront property.
