At the King’s Table
Read: 2 Samuel 9:6–13

So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons. 2 Samuel 9:11

“He’ll live,” the vet announced, “but his leg will have to be amputated.” The stray mongrel my friend had brought in had been run over by a car. “Are you the owner?” There would be a hefty surgery bill, and the puppy would need care as it recovered. “I am now,” my friend replied. Her kindness has given that dog a future in a loving home.

Mephibosheth saw himself as a “dead dog,” unworthy of favor (2 Samuel 9:8). Being lame in both feet due to an accident, he was dependent on others to protect and provide for him (see 4:4). Furthermore, after the death of his grandfather, King Saul, he probably feared that David, the new king, would order all enemies and rivals to the throne killed, as was the common practice of the time.

Yet, out of love for his friend Jonathan, David ensured that Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth would always be safe and cared for as his own son (9:7). In the same way, we who were once God’s enemies, marked for death, have been saved by Jesus and given a place with Him in heaven forever. That’s what it means to eat at the banquet in the kingdom of God that Luke describes in his gospel (Luke 14:15). Here we are—the sons and daughters of a King! What extravagant, undeserved kindness we’ve received! Let’s draw near to God in gratitude and joy.Karen Kwek

When are you likely to forget that God protects and cares for you? How could 2 Samuel 9:6–13 encourage you during such times?

Dear Jesus, thank You for saving me and giving me a place at Your table forever. Remind me that I’m Your dear child, and help me to always praise and trust You.

Bible in a year: Isaiah 37–38; Colossians 3

Good evening, radu...how’s the resting going from you Friday and Saturday at the museum?

Did you have some good tours?

A bunch of rain yesterday, and I forgot to put my gauge out after the snow a couple weeks back. My leaves are sopping wet and impossible to sweep off the driveway. Oh well....

Today’s been a VERY laid back day. There were only two of us working yesterday and we stayed on the go all day.
Then we went to a friend’s birthday party last night though I really wasn’t up for it. It was fun and we didn’t get home until 2:30
I’ve had no energy today. LOL

It sounds like you’re having as much trouble dealing with your leaves as farmers here are having getting crops up. Raining often enough nothing can dry out.

Howdy, PRO.

How are things up your way? Are you getting those temps in the 30s you mentioned several days ago?

It feels like summer here. It’s hard to believe it’s October.

Hey radu, uneventful weekend, son was over last night for dinner and hanging.

We have been in the 30's and have a freeze warning for tomorrow and Tuesday nights, that's typical for this time of the year.

Just watching the leaves fall.

How was your weekend?

Hey there, radu! Did you have a good weekend at the museum? Get any rain? We didn’t. But had high winds today. Ugh

It sounds like a good weekend for you, other than those nippy temps. You can hang on to those, please. We aren’t quite ready for 30s to be sent down our way just yet. LOL

It was a good weekend here but it left me too tuckered out to get anything done today. Just two of us at the museum yesterday so we stayed busy. Then a friend’s birthday party last night kept us out until 2:30 a.m. and that made for a looooong day. I’m gettin’ too old for that but heck, it was a fun time and I have no complaints. :-)

Hi Kathy, retired life is good in-between bouts of old age aches and pains that it brings, but I am Blessed nonetheless.

Cold weather nights are here with freeze warnings but a typical Fall so far.

Howdy, luvie.

Had a great time t the museum and met several fun folks.

No rain here over the weekend. Just beautiful comfy weather. But rain chances are in the forecast pretty much all week. The storm system that gave you the high winds is coming through here tomorrow.
