The rise in violent crime in Chicago has boiled over, drawing concern from business leaders and leading to political infighting among those charged with keeping the city safe.
“We were in the midst of a post-pandemic recovery downtown and starting to see shoppers return, and office vacancies were finally starting to go down and right at that moment we started to see crime,” said City Alderman Brian Hopkins. “If crime continues to increase, I think you'll start to see the economic recovery stall.”

‘Business leaders’ means chamber of commerce which means pro illegal immigration which means drugs, gangs and general mayhem.
So… what exactly are these people asking for…
When the recovery actually happens, it won't stall. It will just happen somewhere else. And eventually the property owners in downtown will need to deal with reduced tenancy, in the offices and all of the support businesses. These people think that everything will go back to what used to be normal. Good luck with that.
But there will still be pressure to defund law enforcement. Go figure!

I cannot imagine anyone who would willingly go to Chicago as a tourist. I can go shopping & eat good food somewhere else & know I’ll get home alive.
The problem is obvious - it’s those 4 independent aldermen! Replace them with Democrats and all will be well.
