(OUTKICK) – As recently as Oct. 3, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern admitted that the ‘Zero COVID‘ policy used to shut down the country was a failed strategy. Days later, Ardern has turned her back on that admission and reinstated indefinite lockdowns after 32 new cases arose in Auckland.
Not only is Ardern doubling down on the folly of past false promises with the Zero COVID strategy, she is also going full George Orwell by instructing citizens to surrender full compliance to government-backed COVID data and policy and to expel any other source of information.
“The most up-to-date information daily. You can trust us as a source of information. You can also trust the Director General of Health and the Ministry of Health,” started Ardern. “Otherwise dismiss anything else. We will continue to be your single source of truth. Things aren’t good here, but they are nowhere near as bad as people seem to be being told.
If I was an American, I’d be wondering what they are trying to distract me from by telling me how bad other countries are.
I don’t really know what New Zealand is like - but speaking from Australia, it’s just not that bad.

Some Australians will receive a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as the next phase of the rollout continues.

Half a million Australians will soon roll up their sleeves yet again, this time for a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Australia’s peak advisory group on vaccines has now officially given the green light for booster shots for those whose immune systems “did not produce the optimal response to the first two doses.”
In a statement on Friday morning, ATAGI said the recommendation of a third dose was to address the risk of “suboptimal or non-response” to the standard two-dose schedule for some people.
Authorities say the third dose would maximise the level of immune response to “as close as possible to the general population”...
ATAGI and Mr Hunt said at this stage, there is no recommendation for non-immunocompromised Australians to get a third dose.
“The next stage, the general population stage of the booster program, we are expecting advice from ATAGI before the end of October,” he said.
“But we have over 150 million vaccines secured for the future, and so we are able to implement that on the time frame and the urgency and immediacy that is suggested by ATAGI if and when they provide that.”...
Questioned whether booster shots could become a yearly task, like a flu shot, Chief medical officer Paul Kelly said at this stage a third dose “would be enough”.
“But we are only a year into this (global vaccination effort),” he said.
“A third dose is likely to be the last dose we have to do.”...
Mr Hunt said the news came as Australia passes the 30 million vaccination mark, with 81.5 per cent of eligible adults having received their first dose and 60.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.
“That means … we’ve not only passed the USA, but we’ve also passed Israel and the EU,” Mr Hunt said.
“But there is more work to be done, and I continue to urge people to come forward.”...

As thousands of Queensland residents desperately try to return home, a figure shows just how long some may need to wait.

Police are now under pressure to clear a massive backlog of 8,310 applications to enter the state, which has been closed to NSW since July — and have provided no concrete time frame of when the border will reopen to the state’s southern neighbours...
One applicant, who asked to remain anonymous in fear of jeopardising her application, first applied to enter Queensland in August. But after being notified that the application was now void, she was asked to reapply in September but received a lengthy reply from QPS indicating she was one of thousands in the queue and with just a few hundred quarantine rooms available, the wait could be lengthy...
The applicant told news.com.au that her three-day trip to the ACT had now turned into three months, and there was no indication of when she will be able to return to either her rental or the newly -urchased home she was about to move into.
“I am renting in Brisbane, but recently purchased a freestanding home on the Gold Coast,” she told news.com.au.
“Luckily, I am not paying rent on my Brisbane home, but I am now paying rates on the Gold Coast. So technically I’m living in three places right now. It’s insane.”
The applicant reached out the Border Pass Client Service department of QPS, and was told that at the time of her email, the department are “unable” to advise “when a quarantine hotel room will be available”.
“You’re on your own until you are told you can enter,” she said...
The Queensland Premier and chief health officer have announced a trial of home quarantine, that will commence on 11 October 2021, for Queenslanders returning from a COVID-19 hotspot.
Essentially, this means that invited Queenslanders will be allowed to quarantine in their nominated residence for 14 days, if their application is approved.
News.com.au understands the approval will only apply to Queensland residents who have been invited to participate and who have a right of entry to return to Queensland from a Covid-19 hotspot under the Border Restrictions Direction, or its successors.
Recipients who receive the invitation to take part in the Home Quarantine Trial must satisfy a string of eligibility tests...
