SAN FRANCISCO (NEXSTAR) – A team of investigators calling themselves The Case Breakers say they know the identity of the Zodiac Killer, but law enforcement is refuting their claim.
The serial murderer killed five people in Northern California in 1968 and 1969, taunting investigators with with a series of cryptic notes.
The Case Breakers, a group of 40-plus members led by retired FBI agents have varied backgrounds in law enforcement, according to their site, and work to solve some of the country’s most notorious cold cases. The Case Breakers have previously attempted to tackle the D.B. Cooper case and the death of Jimmy Hoffa, according to FOX.

Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback told Nexstar that his department is unaware of any such physical evidence and questioned where the cold case team was getting its information. Railsback said that Riverside investigators have worked closely with the labs and law enforcement teams to investigate any possible link.

Sour grapes.
If they need new project ideas they can look into the death of Vince Foster.
But get life insurance first. :)
Every cold case needs to have an ending, even if it’s a fake ending. Closed cases will not be needing law enforcement personnel spending time on them. Case closed! Next!
🤔
Born in 1970. You solved it!!!
Cooper's body has long rotted to nothing and probably fed a bunch of critters in the woods of the Former Great Northwest corner of the Communist Left Coast.
Also, not a refutation. They’re saying “Squirrel!” on one hand and “sour grapes” on the other.
Vince Foster is too easy to solve. They are looking for a challenge.
No. Try Mike Pence.
I always wondered if Zodiac was some tool falsely claiming responsibility and sending his notes and codes to police and media for giggles.
Meanwhile, the actual serial killer(s) appreciate the diversion.
I literally went to check FR just now to see if anyone yet posted about this. My reading the FOX link spurred me to it.
Incidentally, a few years back there was an interesting (but not fully credible) documentary on this that I watched. A whole bunch about the Cheri Jo part. So it’s already been posited that Zodiac did this as well.
Ping for later reading, as I finish other.
Easy, if you’re not worried about ending up in his place.
The Zodiac killer calls FBI to confess but was ignored plus many other murders.

There was no DNA testing in 1966, so if they took any samples at all it would just be for blood type or hair analysis. They probably would not have been preserved anyway.
The only real DNA evidence in the Zodiac case comes from the stamps on the letters, and the only possibly reliable fingerprints are some that were recovered from Paul Stine’s cab. Besides that, there isn’t much physical evidence at all, unless they recover one of the firearms used or something like that.
Just an internet meme
Regardless of the lack of smoking gun evidence, do you personally believe they are one in the same?
Some of the letters were definitely known to be fakes, but many of the letters are absolutely genuine.
For one, there was information in the letters that it’s likely only the killer would know. The killer also left writing at one of the crime scenes in handwriting that matched the letters closely. Finally, the killer included physical evidence from one crime (a piece of a victim’s bloody shirt) in one letter to give solid confirmation that he was the killer.
I used to post on the zodiackiller.com message board a little bit and I remember that theory well. Bet you were on there too :)
