I used to live in Tx. Using an expired driving license is accepted, to get a new one. In fact, it is sorta like a passport — when you get the new one they punch holes in the old.

The ordinary license can serve as ID and let you drive, but a license with a higher degree of verification can allow you to fly without showing a passport. She may or may not be able to get the license renewed without qualifying for the new higher level license. In any case, as others have noted, in Texas, her expired ID can serve as a voter ID.

This is a typical tactic of the Left. Find an extremely rare example of a person that for some reason is unable to meet the requirements for whatever, and use that to argue that any requirement is too restrictive.

My Mother had the same problem, BMV took her license because she couldn’t produce her BC, after many attempts writing letters and email we gave up. Long story she passed at 96yo.
