Manchin signals he may raise his $1.5 trillion limit on big spending package

Sen. Joe Manchin, a centrist Democrat who is blocking a massive social welfare spending passage, said he would consider raising the cost of the measure from his proclaimed limit of $1.5 trillion to as high as $2.2 trillion in order to reach a compromise that can satisfy party lawmakers in both chambers.

Manchin told reporters in the Capitol he won’t rule out a measure that costs between $1.9 trillion and $2.2 trillion, which is the range President Joe Biden recommended to House Democrats in a closed-door session last week.

Last week, Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, announced he would not support a bill that costs more than $1.5 trillion, but he also suggested he’d be willing to compromise. He called a plan by House Democrats to spend $3.5 trillion on a host of new government programs “fiscal insanity” and said the tax hikes they plan to use to pay for the programs would be “vindictive.”

Manchin did not specifically pledge to raise his cap above the $1.5 trillion.

“I’m not ruling anything out, but the bottom line is I want to make sure that we’re strategic, and we do the right job, and we don’t basically add more to the concerns we have right now,” Manchin told reporters Tuesday as he entered a closed-door meeting with fellow Democrats.

It’s always Kabuki Theater.
It’s all been worked out beforehand so that the Senators from conservative states won’t be voted out.
Sinema and Manchin will fold like cheap suits and the Dems will get a couple of Trillion in walking around money.

Congress is going to pass something. They were never going to just do nothing.

The only thing they have been augmenting for a couple of months now is about how bad the screw job was going to be

Actually no

If the check had cleared the bank, he would be voting for the whole $3.5 trillion bill

Senator Sinema is going to need to beef up her security detail the way things have been going for her lately.

Everyone knew this was coming. LOL.

I’m guessing they all settle in the neighborhood of $2 Trillion and then pat each other on the back. Media will praise Manchin for his “courage”.

Expect more trillion-dollar-plus bills next year and beyond if we don’t win the House and get control of the Senate. They will borrow and spend like there’s no tomorrow until they’re stopped by overwhelming opposition. That may take a while, assuming we can win elections in spite of the fraud.

It is not so much the money as the new socialist programs they will institute to transform the country. Hard to impossible to undo.

OK - I’ll give you the two Reds that you need and all my railroads for Boardwalk and $1000 cash. Deal?
