F-35B Stealth Fighters Operate From A Japanese Aircraft Carrier For The First Time - The U.S. Marine Corps jets are the first fixed-wing aircraft to fly from a Japanese warship since World War II.

Japan is back in the business of operating a fixed-wing aircraft carrier, with the first embarkation of short takeoff and vertical-landing F-35B stealth jets from the U.S. Marine Corps on the modified helicopter carrier Izumo. It is the first instance of the country operating fixed-wing aircraft from ships since the end of World War II. The trials are set to kickstart a new era for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, or JMSDF, which has long harbored ambitions to adapt its two 24,000-ton Izumo class helicopter carriers for fixed-wing operations.

The Japanese Ministry of Defense announced today that the Marine Corps F-35Bs went aboard the Izumo for the first time yesterday, releasing a number of photos and video of the action, which took place in the waters south of Shikoku. Japan’s Ministry of Defense had previously confirmed that Marine Corps F-35Bs would go aboard the Izumo between October 3 and 7, for a period of trials in the Pacific. These will evaluate the modifications that have been made to the Izumo so far, as part of its transition from a very capable helicopter carrier to a true aircraft carrier, able to support and operate fixed-wing short takeoff and vertical-landing (STOVL) types. Ahead of these trials, the Izumo arrived at Iwakuni last week.

Wait a minute, when did US aircraft operate from a Japanese warship in WWII? What the heck did I miss?

They’re also operating off the new British carrier, the Queen Elizabeth. Japan & Britain have only recently gotten their F-35B’s but their pilots are still training up. Buy deploying US Marine squadrons they can train their aircraft handlers to support the new aircraft type at the same time.

The Nippons were badass when we had to fight them. No doubt they still have that talent which can be turned back on with no problem. The Chicoms may learn the folly of overreach the hard way.

I totally understand that, I know someone in Japan who saw the QE visit there very recently. I just want to know about that “first time since WWII”. Did we ever fly anything off of Japanese carriers after WWII? Inquiring minds want to know.

If they chicoms think they will intervene over Taiwan they will nuke Japan at some point. The IJN can do a lot of damage to the chicom fleet. If it does come to war with China I hope the Kido Butai can run wild for more than six months.

Flying off the Kaga... Aaaand...here we are. Apparently allied with the Japanese against the Chinese. The Chinese were our allies in WWII and the Roosevelt Administration stabbed the Nationalist Chinese in the back in favor of the Communists. Since then, and for obvious reasons, the Japanese have been far better friends to us, even if they did want to bury us industrially, which is fair game.

If nukes get involved at all, that’s game over. We’d hit back, then they’d knock out the to 40 or so US cities and China’s nukes are relatively high yield. End of the world for China and USA for sure.
