McConnell 'respectfully' tells Biden it's time for Democrats to raise debt ceiling
The Hill ^ | 10/04/2021 | JORDAIN CARNEY

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) is urging President Biden to lean on Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to get Democrats to raise the debt ceiling on their own.

"I respectfully submit that it is time for you to engage directly with congressional Democrats on this matter," McConnell said of the debt ceiling in a letter to Biden.

"Your lieutenants in Congress must understand that you do not want your unified Democratic government to sleepwalk toward an avoidable catastrophe when they have had nearly three months' notice to do their job," McConnell wrote.

Actually, this is exactly what McConnell should be saying. If the Democrats want this so bad, then they can do it without Republican cover.

Make them vote for it unilaterally with NO Republican support. Make them eat the funding bill, make them eat the infrastructure bill, just refuse to play along.

And then start voting for every single rider you can, making them vote no on every single rider, making them eat time so it becomes larger and larger on everybody’s view.

NO negotiations.

It’s equally bad whether they do it alone or “bi-partisan” SO DON’T ENCOURAGE THEM to do it alone...!!!!

That would make too much sense
The ‘stupid party’ has worked hard to earn that name.

Weak chin worthless leader. Groveling politely. McConnell is the epitome of what is wrong with the republican party. Bought off by lobbyists. Beholden by deep connections to communist China. Kicked out of the army as a closet homo. Stabbed his own president in the back for four years.

This is one time the Assistant Democrats don’t want to assist the Democrats?

Perfect. The rats are trying to suspense the debt ceiling, not just raise it. IOW , open the door to the mint and fire up the presses full time 24/7, crashing the currency as a result and igniting runaway inflation. They want gop votes as “bipartisan” cover, and McConnell wo/nt give it to them.

has congress ever not raised the debt limit?

has spending ever been cut to avoid exceeding the debt limit?

makes you wonder, do we really have a debt limit?

I agree, but doubt it will make much difference. I remember after Obama Care was shoved down out throats, that during interviews, people said it was a ‘bipartisan’ bill.

Respectfully = knee pads are ready.

You didn't notice the /s tag.

"Respectfully" = a nice twist of the knife.

Good job, McConnell.

Maybe this is the pivot point to digital currency (what the Dems want anyway). If the goal is to sink the ship, blow it up. SOS.

I am so sick of hearing the word, "catastrophe". I don't recall any of the past short-lived shutdowns being remotely a catastrophe. The general population doesn't even notice.

IRRC, park services are closed/restricted and federal employees get a free vacation with back pay. The only people affected are enlisted military who live check to check.

The Turtle can suck it.

I’m just surprised that the 3-5 RINO’s are going along with making the Dems accountable for this farce.

* I remember after Obama Care was shoved down out throats, that during interviews, people said it was a ‘bipartisan’ bill. *

ACA actually was a pure democrat power play, nothing bipartisan about it. Even John McCain, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Collins all vote “nay:”

It is bad either way but that doesn’t matter they have to it. They will do it. That is why Republicans should let Democrats take it upon themselves. Ultimately Romney and Murkowski will vote in favor because they want to be liked.

We have a brand new debt limit every time they raise it.
