Pro-Trump challenger's residency issues catch Murkowksi's eye

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski has not yet said whether she'll run for reelection in 2022 — but she is well aware of potential baggage one of her challengers could be carrying.

Murkowski took aim at her would-be GOP challenger, Kelly Tshibaka, over the candidate's ties to Alaska in an interview with CNN, an opening salvo in what could emerge as the most high-profile proxy war between Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell and former President Donald Trump in next year's midterms.

Murkowski alluded to a state investigation into whether Tshibaka illegally obtained a fishing license for a sportfishing event in 2019 because she had not lived in the state for the previous 12 months.

"Alaskans take their fishing very seriously," Murkowski said. "She's got a problem with her fishing license and residency problem."

"That's not what I care about," she added. "That's what others care about."

Asked what she thought about her potential opponent, Murkowski said, "I don't know her. She just came back to the state a couple years ago."

Tshibaka, a former Alaska Department of Administration commissioner, has offered herself as a vessel for Trump supporters, earning the former President's endorsement in June as he embarked on a revenge campaign against Republicans like Murkowski

They're STILL on this fishing license business.

I keep reading the residentcy requirement over and over...and the 12 months is a ridiculous requirement...but she was a resident for many years previously...and I think there’s a loop hole there and you have to go back to the actual legislation.

I think it amounts to whether she was an actual resident of another state during her absence.

ANYONE but Turdkowski. Unfortunately, ranked choice voting will ensure the turds re-election. I could be wrong and will gladly apologize for it, but I believe we are doomed to keep Turdkowski until she decides to retire.

Wonder how many months a year murky lives in Alaska, especially in a non election year?

CNN should be embarrassed with this excuse for a slime job. And, as stated in the article, if Alaskans take their fishing seriously, tell us the last —and probably 1st - time Murkowski bated a hook and fished.

Petty, with the added benefit it will backfire for any number of reasons.

Our country is going down the crapper big time, and these morons are worried about a fishing license from 2019?

Sheesh.

Murkowski supports open borders and giving citizenship to lawbreakers, but demands compliance with fishing regulations!

This could be from the Babylon Bee.

I’ll bet Lisa was silent when a certain high profile woman with kankles was elected to the Senate from a state that she never lived in. Well, except for that long weekend with Web back in ‘79.

Isn't it time to fish or cut bait, Senator?

That's all they've got to protect Murkowski.

Switching to ranked-choice balloting is also a trick she has up her sleeve. She'll be running to be the "second choice" candidate to try to manipulate the outcome in her favor.

You’re right.

And she’s literally going to be running as the “second choice” candidate to pull this off.

Perhaps the state made the mistake in issuing the license, blame the elected officials.

The way this sham of a voting system works, is people list their top 3 choices; however you don’t have to list 3, you can choose only 1 and that’s it. Then at least you can do your part to choose only 1 person. However, if your person ends up in the bottom tier, their gonna “split” your single vote and give it to the top people anyway. It’s such a crock. My vote can literally to a pro-abortion, pinko leftist, and there is nothing I can do about it except not even vote. 🤬
