A pro-Trump Republican candidate who opposes COVID-19 vaccine mandates has a real chance of winning a City Council seat in southern Brooklyn, according to political sources in the borough.
Candidate Inna Vernikov — a 37-year-old lawyer and Jewish Ukrainian native — is running against Democrat Steve Saperstein.
The candidates for the 48th Council District are vying to succeed ex-Councilman Chaim Deutsch, who forfeited his seat earlier this year after getting convicted of tax fraud.
The district includes many Russian-speaking and Jewish immigrants in the communities of Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sheepshead Bay and Homecrest.
Democrats vastly outnumber Republicans in the district — but voter registration is deceiving.
Donald Trump trounced Joe Biden in the district in last year’s presidential race, which means droves of moderate-to-conservative crossed over to back the GOP incumbent.

I have family in Bensonhurst. Italians rarely move out of cities. The neighborhood mostly Dems but pro-Trump. Brooklyn is a mixed hood’ of mostly Jews, and I personally know of a number of them who moved here in L.A. Man, they hate Biden and Fauci big-time.

Uh, we’re not talking about the National Security Council here. She’s running for Brooklyn City Council. I’m sorry. Inna looks good to me. She appears to be an attractive, articulate candidate challenging the leftist narrative and local leftist hegemony in local government. I’m baffled as to why this is a problem. I’m not a Brooklynite, and I don’t have a dog in this fight. But keep in mind that whomever she’s running against is likely far worse than her. She’s trying to run against and/or unseat her local neighborhood leftist kooks, not Rand Paul or Ted Cruz.
The trend in the deep blue city of NY began BEFORE THE US HAD A SIGNED CONSTITUTION.
It was organized street voter fraud and political corruption and it began at Tammany Hall in 1786, and was and remained, the heart of the demonRAT party.
Big city corruption is endemic to all big, blue cities and if you choose to live there, you choose to live with corruption.
It has not changed in over 230 years and won't change during the next election.
