The actual measure of a vaccine is its ability to stop the spread of the virus it was created to stop. If the vaccine fails this test there are 2 options… back to the drawing board of change the definition of vaccine. We know what the CDC decided.

With all due respect, I disagree.
The vaccines were approved FOR THE PREVENTION OF COVID19. That. Is. It....and those trials ran for months, not years. So we haven't any hard, controlled data collection on long-term impact, e.g. Everyone's little toe falls off after 18 months, or waning VE over time (though a few studies have shown declining VE over time).
It could very well be the case that those who got shots are disproportionately NOT in ICUs etc. That's a good thing in the short run, provided there aren't side effects that offset that ICU goodness (though we don't know due to the absence of controlled data collection and follow-up visits since the trials ended).
But that's a collateral benefit. It wasn't the INTENT of these shots, nor the basis of the EUAs. What you're saying is akin to saying a good measure of smoking is less weight gain.
So, don’t think this is some moment of clarity/sanity, or that it in any way heralds an end to this COVID madness.

IIRC it’s even listed in John Bastyr’s 19th century herbal medicine book.
Sometime in the late 1800s and German organic chemists isolate and figure out how to synthesize the compound glyceryl guaiacolate (GG, 2G, guaifenesin) and it’s sold by the metric buttload for 100 years as a “mucolytic.”
Until 1965.
The FDA, doing what they were designed to do - rid Americans of the scourge of the “Patent medicine” poisoning and sham/placebo treatments, propose removing guaifenesin from the US Pharmacopoeia.
An Army of lobbyists threaten congress (that public-private partnership so depending upon money crossing hands), congress threatens the FDA “hey, schweetheart, that’s a nice little outfit you got goin’ there, would be a shame to have to defund it,” and FDA says “yazza massa” and puts guaifenesin on the back burner, removing from the removal list.
Fast forward 60 years (give or take) and there is NO high quality peer-reviewed placebo-controlled randomized control trial demonstrating the efficacy of guaifenesin over the water you’re advised to take it with ANYwhere.
At least as of about ten years ago, the last time I had an NIH librarian pull up any such report for me.
And those little green snot goblins on TV sell a heck of a lot of what should be, in all “science” be relegated to the ashbin of historical “patent medicines”, scams, shams, and useless remedies no better than homeopathy.

The CDC is a fully woke political operation that has largely lost sight of its stated mission. There are also elements of regulatory capture and Iron Law of Bureaucracy at work to explain their non-performance over the last 18 months.
I’m not sure how you best accomplish their stated mission, but I’m fairly certain they no longer do so, and don’t seem to be capable of doing so.

“why are they only looking at number of cases?” Because everyone takes whatever data (which is totally unreliable on it’s face) supports their position. At it’s base, if you don’t have a reliable test for COVID positivity, and you don’t have a uniform set of reporting standards, whatever numbers you get are going to be useless.
I drink a gallon of water a day. If I start to get a cough and feel a little chest congestion, I take a Mucinex generic and the feeling goes away within an hour. Not a study, just a personal experience ... your mileage may vary.

Now, now, this simply isn’t true.
Threads on FR connect these two things as cause and effect every day.
Behavior changes may account for it. People are starting to take more risks, and vaccinated people are probably taking more than non-vaccinated.
EVERY “vax”d person I know is STILL a skeert Karen....masking up IF they do go out, anywhere.
Most are avoiding large crowds, shopping at off hours, etc.
The UN-“vax”d have been taking proper preventatives and/or supplements, have robust and fully intact immune systems and, aren’t spreaders.
And....
Plenty of reports on how these “vax”d are the majority of hospitalized/death cases.

A large number of vaxxed never make it to a hospital after their shots. You don’t see them because they are dead.

No they were approved for POSSIBLE prevention of illness or mitigation of illness severity. Popular hope sentiment muddied the public view, though the notion was encouraged, by Liberals, of the vaccines as being 100 per cent preventative. They lied and now they try to move the goal posts when in fact the goal posts never moved, they were caught in their over hyping of the vaccines. Part of the fog of politics surrounding these vaccine. I hate the liberals for muddying the view and over promising what they should have never promised!!
When I took the vaccines as a front line worker, I knew the shots were crude and not fully worked out and the disclaimers I signed never promised that the vaccines would keep me 100 per cent safe but that there was a strong chance that the vaccines would also be helpful in reducing severe illness. What we are seeing in Central Virginia bears out the latter statement.
Now fall off of vaccine protective effects is another issue but I do suspect covid vax breakthru’s will find themselves in a much stronger position with natural immunity kicking in post covid!
Now you can “respectfully disagree’ if you wish but I’m in the middle thick of it right now and seeing more than a few
previously unvaxxed African American and Mexican families losing their youngish dads and moms. Maybe we save 2 out of every 5 we try ECMO with!( we had a major save with one 30 something parent and we are all over joyed...the patient is well known and liked in the patient’s community...saved on ECMO and will not need a transplant)
One person in their mid 60s, a little overweight, but no other co-morbidities...came in...needed some high flow for a couple days but was much better the next day and on the third day was on regular oxygen. (Ready for transfer by day three but we kept the patient for an extra day..no beds downstairs. I got the patient on inhalers and expectorants...the next day the patient had a nice loose cough and able to cough crap up and the lungs sounded much better. The Patient had had the JJ shot in early spring. The patient went home a few days later, feeling much better. Anecdote only, but we’ve otherwise had very few vaxxed patients in our icu’s.
Truth finally starts to win out ?
Our ER people aren’t seeing many suddenly dead vaxxed people and very few vax injuries other than those who had more temporary allergic type or febrile reactions to the shots(they go home after a little symptomatic treatment)! Statistically the Vaers reports are from persons scattered all over the place and not concentrated in one particular area or region and are small numbers in comparison to the hundreds of millions now vaxxed. I don’t doubt there have been deaths, and certainly larger numbers of vaxx injuries, and more than one would want but statistically speaking our neck of the woods, we might go weeks before we saw vax injuries and even more time before we see deaths.

Because it advances their agenda… and there are a variety of agendas being advanced. The main agenda, IMHO, is to keep the fear porn going to keep the controls and lockdowns going. “Cases” means nothing beyond testing positive on a test that can detect small remnant fragments of a virus. Such tests are frequently given to the non sick (e.g., “hey, someone at your school tested positive so you need to be tested”).
Choose to get vaccinated or choose not to get vaccinated, but let’s all get on with our lives in a manner we choose.
