Kentucky Republican wants to redirect proposed Afghanistan aid to finance Israel's missile defense system
In the latest hurdle to Israel receiving $1 billion in funding to replenish its Iron Dome missile defense system after May's Gaza conflict, Republican Senator Rand Paul from Kentucky has blocked swift passage of the bill, Politico reports.
The lawmaker is an opponent of US foreign aid and is insisting that the Iron Dome money be offset by redirecting financial assistance for Afghanistan.
“He proposed that we pay for the House bill with money that is going to go to the Taliban,” a spokeswoman for the Kentucky senator told Politico.

“But there’s an inferior/superior culture line between Israel and her neighbors just as there is between Tijuana and San Diego.”
Agreed, and that’s on Israel to take care of it, not us.
“How about we make sure Israel is safe first, and then grand
stand over Afghanistan funding.”
How about we care for the US, I am sure Israel can take care of themselves at this point, there is a pethora of things to do here. I wonder why a lot of Americans seem not to prioritze their own nation.
This is how muslims worship
Israel is our ally, so we should help them out. Just like how we’ve helped out other allies in the past. Eritrea has never been our ally.
Not with borrowed money.
Everything is borrowed money.
The best way to a balanced budget is across-the-board cuts. EVERY department.
Everything is borrowed money.
Then you’re not in a position to give away money.
As long as we draw back proportionally, I have no problem with it. But the antisemites around here are in league with the libtard-fascists and I don’t like it.
America is supposed to take care of our allies, not abandon them to encroaching enemies.
Sounds good to me.
I don’t think our relationship with Israel is remotely even.
I think we give way more than we receive. I do not see it as a mutual benefit. Eritrea, or whomever, are just neutral-meaningless.
I am hot and cold on much of Rand Paul’s gyrations.
I think what he is doing here is to point out to the majority of Dem’s that voted for this that the whole nation can see that they placate and fund the Taliban with bogus aid for Afghanistan that is two faced in their commitment to free nations in the Middle East as long as they allow such funding to happen.
After a little floor time and some items in the congressional record pointing this out he will step aside while waving the red cape at the Democrat majority.
Hope so.
I agree with Rand.
We’re trillions in debt. Cut the foreign welfare.
King James Version
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Don't take the Mark and good luck at the White Throne of Judgement.
I love Israel, but they do not need US money for their defense.
He is only asking for it to be paid for with a cut elsewhere...
“And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
This must be why couldn’t have been more pro-Israel Trump was re-elected, along with Republican House and Senate majorities so that the United States could hold off the left-wing lunacy that’s destroying this country.
Arguing about what another country - and a secular socialist state with publicly funded abortion at that - needs when the this country is imploding just screams America First.
Oh, and before the anti-Semitism accusation starts ...
Not one dollar should be leaving the United States in any form of foreign aid. We’re broke. We’re trillions in debt and we have trillions in unfunded liabilities.
Every country we support needs to get off the dole. That includes Europe NATO and Japan.
Goodness you sound angry. Progressive-like outrage. Take a laxative. And I agree America cannot support the world, just not like a petulant antisemitic troll.
