House Democratic leaders late Thursday postponed a vote yet again on the bipartisan infrastructure bill amid threats from progressives to tank it as leverage for a separate, larger package to expand social safety net programs.
After a long day of meetings between Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the warring centrist and progressive factions of the caucus, as well as with White House staff, Democrats opted to delay a vote planned for Thursday rather than allow an embarrassing public failure on the House floor.
A notice from House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's (D-Md.) office issued shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday confirmed that there would be no further votes for the night. The House is expected to reconvene Friday morning as the negotiations continue.
Democratic leadership and the White House were hoping they could reach an agreement on a framework for the reconciliation bill that would convince House progressives to vote for the Senate-passed bipartisan infrastructure bill.
But as the night wore on, a deal on a framework with two key Senate centrists, Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), remained elusive despite haggling with top White House staff. And progressives made clear they were still dug in.
"I don't see a deal tonight. I really don't," Manchin said as he left the meeting with top White House staff in the Capitol basement shortly before 10 p.m.
Manchin maintained that he's still pushing for a top-line spending figure of $1.5 trillion for the social benefit package -- less than half the current $3.5 trillion.
"We're in good-faith negotiations," Manchin said.
A group of centrists had originally secured a commitment from Pelosi that the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill investing in transit and broadband programs, which the Senate passed in August, would get a House floor vote by Sept. 27.

It’s a trap.
The USA remains screwed by the pseudo election of the Chinese POTUS and Senate [what does Ditch’s wife have to say?].
You ain’t wrong ... just sayin’.
Why they keep calling it an infrastructure bill is beyond me...it’s everything way more than that!
Good. If they are not voting…they are not stealing.
Well…not stealing more.
Of course it's a trap. Manchin's "1.5 trillion" is actually three trillion because it's not the total of the two bills, it's just the second part that the libs want to be 3.5 trillion (which itself is then 5 trillion, and that number is so cooked and manipulated that it's probably double that when you don't use congressional math to calculate it.)
Still, they wanted a win this week to shove their agenda down the throats of America, and for at least one week they didn't get their way.
Oh my.
Pelosi promised a vote today.
more bargaining, wheeling and dealing so that they all make a few million
Manchin will flip his vote when he gets enough payola. That’s how Manchin is. Always has been, always will be.
finally some honest reporting - accurately says White House staff and doesn’t refer to Pres Dementia
It is the final foot on your face.
It will destroy you.
“Why they keep calling it an infrastructure bill is beyond me...it’s everything way more than that!”
Because THEY own the media. They could call it your grandmother’s haircut, if they choose to.
Only when people with money ON OUR SIDE feel that having a balanced media is important, will anything change...and no sign of that coming (other than our niche’s, like OAN).
I’ll take what I can get. Every trillion off is probably over 3 trillion our children won’t have to pay off, after interest.
“Oh my.
Pelosi promised a vote today.”
Keep praying that the Left implodes and we are delivered from their evil Friends.

Public Service Reminder - the best thing one can do in the face of an impending implosion is to go get their COVID shot. It's the only way to be safe and get life back to normal.
I love how the Progressive coalition in the House is willing to gamble for All or Nothing...
There is something we don’t know about the economy, at least most of us don’t know.
Maybe most of us don’t know the actual scale of the economy, against which 3.5 trillion, apparently from the air, should be measured.
Imagine you lived in a small isolated community and you never heard of electronic communication and there was no newspaper to read. As far as you know, your little community is the total extent of civilization.
Your little community has an economy which is completely self-contained as far as you know, but you are the curious type who likes to check the math. You discover the bank in your community is continually creating new money by lending far in excess of its deposits (reserves), to persons unknown, at essentially zero interest. You discover this has been happening for a long time, yet there doesn’t seem to be dollars drifting around in the streets a foot deep like there should be in light of how many are being created each business day.
Simply put, it doesn’t add up. You are missing something. Something which is extracting those dollars and whatever wealth they represent, from your economy without making a ripple, seemingly.
You think you know all the inputs and outputs because you know the full extent of the economy in your village, which you believe to be all there is, anywhere.
But it snot, as they say. The real world is millions of times larger than your village, and your local village is plugged into the larger economy through channels which are kept secret by blood oaths among your richest elite. That in fact is why they ARE your richest elite, because they inherited (in most cases) access to the secret money and trading channels connecting to the larger world, which they control for their own benefit. They are in fact gatekeepers, and none shall pass except they pay the very steep toll.
