SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), one of the nation's oldest firearms manufacturers, announced today that it is moving its headquarters and significant elements of its operations to Maryville, Tennessee in 2023. Smith & Wesson has been based in Springfield, Massachusetts since the company was incorporated in 1852.
Mark Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, said "This has been an extremely difficult and emotional decision for us, but after an exhaustive and thorough analysis, for the continued health and strength of our iconic company, we feel that we have been left with no other alternative." He specifically cited legislation recently proposed in Massachusetts that, if enacted, would prohibit the company from manufacturing certain firearms in the state. "These bills would prevent Smith & Wesson from manufacturing firearms that are legal in almost every state in America and that are safely used by tens of millions of law-abiding citizens every day exercising their Constitutional 2nd Amendment rights, protecting themselves and their families, and enjoying the shooting sports. While we are hopeful that this arbitrary and damaging legislation will be defeated in this session, these products made up over 60% of our revenue last year, and the unfortunate likelihood that such restrictions would be raised again led to a review of the best path forward for Smith & Wesson."

Good for them!
Charlie Parker didn’t try to keep them in Masshole?
I grew up in that region.
Back in the 70’s it was excellent. It has grown quite a bit.
It’s a nice place with the proximity to the Mountains and Lakes.
I hope the people that choose to transfer are conservative.
As a Maryville resident, I too hope they are conservative. You would be amazed at the numbers of people from Illinois, California, and Michigan who have moved to Maryville in the last few years. Most understand what they are trying to escape, but some still want to bring their failed politics with them.
Better late than never. Kinda like Trump finally leaving NY, with its Soros AG and its kangaroo courts.
I live in Massachusetts and I think that it is great that these 500 jobs are going to Tennessee. I hope that they take all the other 2000 jobs out as they almost certainly shall in 2 years or so.
Good for Tennessee.
Locals had the park all to themselves back in the day.
At some point in the 80’s it just exploded.
Based on the wording, it is all going. No need to keep manufacturing a limited amount of approved state firearms.
If HQ moves, then the revenue moves.
Nissan in Nashville is a good example.
Nippondenso is also in Maryville, and nearby Alcoa is just that, Alcoa. (That was the biggie in WWII, they have their own hydro plant at Chilhowee)
Leave all the employees up there. Don’t bringing to TN.
It is a tough one but in the long run we want S&W to survive.
Tennessee is their best option.
I visited Tennessee a few weeks ago. I loved that place.
We are already talking about returning again soon, before Christmas even. I would move there in a heartbeat but I am anchored for a few reasons. I am working on them all.
Free Red State salute.
I have some very good friends that live in MA and are very conservative.
Not everyone in blue states are communists.
