Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select: SWBI), one of the nation's oldest firearms manufacturers, announced today that it is moving its headquarters and significant elements of its operations to Maryville, Tennessee in 2023. Smith & Wesson has been based in Springfield, Massachusetts since the company was incorporated in 1852.
Mark Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer, said "This has been an extremely difficult and emotional decision for us, but after an exhaustive and thorough analysis, for the continued health and strength of our iconic company, we feel that we have been left with no other alternative." He specifically cited legislation recently proposed in Massachusetts that, if enacted, would prohibit the company from manufacturing certain firearms in the state. "These bills would prevent Smith & Wesson from manufacturing firearms that are legal in almost every state in America and that are safely used by tens of millions of law-abiding citizens every day exercising their Constitutional 2nd Amendment rights, protecting themselves and their families, and enjoying the shooting sports. While we are hopeful that this arbitrary and damaging legislation will be defeated in this session, these products made up over 60% of our revenue last year, and the unfortunate likelihood that such restrictions would be raised again led to a review of the best path forward for Smith & Wesson."
Smith indicated that the company vetted a number of cities and states and, after careful consideration, made the decision to relocate 750 jobs and its headquarters to Maryville, Tennessee. The key factors in the decision included the following:
Support for the 2nd Amendment
Business friendly environment
Quality of life for employees
Cost of living and affordability
Access to higher education institutions
Availability of qualified labor for its operations and headquarter functions
Favorable location for efficiency of distribution
Smith continued, "The...

I think I know what you’re alluding.
I can only hope that the majority of those who fled these “shit holes” don’t bring their way of thinking with them.
I have seen a mix. Some who fled and embrace Texas, and some who got away from a place that sucks but can’t wait to make Texas into the image of the place they ran away from.
I don’t expect a locust to learn. It’s a dumb insect. But people???
TX will be blue inside of 10yrs. Check the Check the last 3-4 GE Election Maps, by county. It’s eye-opening.
They just came for the WATER !!!
The rats will try to figure a way to make them still pay Mass.
state taxes after living in Tenn. for years. Calif is doing that, or atleast trying to those who have moved out of state.
For now. I imagine those will be gradually transitioned out over the next 3-5 years, which is common when a big company makes a move like this.
Probably a lot. But they're really unhappy about S&W's entry into manufacturing shotguns, particularly their new M&P model, ideal for self-defense.
The problem with those libtrash that destroy their states of residence is their minds are so diseased they are blind to the damage they cause.
It's like a parent with demon children who believe they do no wrong. You cannot fix that kind of denial, and they WILL be bringing their diseased minds and destruction of everytning good with them.
Shotguns are not generally considered the big evil firearm, especially hunting models. S&W makes a line of AR-15 type rifles now
I’ve been focusing on Maryville and surrounding area as I plan my escape from NJ.
Every year after Rush moved out of New York to Florida, Albany would audit him to try to squeeze more money. Rush had to hire an accounting firm to take care of this.
Smart move. Literally.
Y’all are idiots for not having done this 30 years ago.
Glad to see this. Every business that CAN, needs to get OUT of a blue state and relocate to a red state. But, leave your blue state goofball employees behind! Red state workers will actually show up for work, LOL!
I had plans to retire to TN. Maryville area. I have always loved the state. But, I stayed in Wisconsin for love. ;)
Better tax environment...
Also, moving the company to America is good for business...
It’s the predictable evolution of Red state migration.
I had the opportunity to speak to the S&W CEO back around 2010 after he spoke to a local NRA support dinner. I told him then to strongly consider getting out of MA & come to OK for the incentives offered by the state. He just couldn’t see leaving his workforce & their skills. Guess the current CEO qualifies for the old Jewish saying about “too late smart.”
Since I really don't need one, I'll 'shop' before I buy {like my wife}.

Surprised this hasn’t happened long ago.
Massachusetts is not pro gun or any damned thing conservative.
From Springfield to Maryville. The transferred will either love it or hate it.
