YouTube is banning prominent anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
SAN FRANCISCO — YouTube is taking down several video channels associated with high-profile anti-vaccine activists including Joseph Mercola and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who experts say are partially responsible for helping seed the skepticism that’s contributed to slowing vaccination rates across the country.
As part of a new set of policies aimed at cutting down on anti-vaccine content on the Google-owned site, YouTube will ban any videos that claim that commonly used vaccines approved by health authorities are ineffective or dangerous. The company previously blocked videos that made those claims about coronavirus vaccines, but not ones for other vaccines like those for measles or chickenpox.
Misinformation researchers have for years said the popularity of anti-vaccine content on YouTube was contributing to growing skepticism of lifesaving vaccines in the United States and around the world. Vaccination rates have slowed and about 56 percent of the U.S. population has had two shots, compared with 71 percent in Canada and 67 percent in the United Kingdom. In July, President Biden said social media companies were partially responsible for spreading misinformation about the vaccines, and need to do more to address the issue.

Like its peers Facebook and Twitter, the company has long resisted policing content too heavily, arguing maintaining an open platform is critical to free speech. But as the companies increasingly come under fire from regulators, lawmakers and regular users for contributing to social ills — including vaccine skepticism — YouTube is again changing policies that it has held onto for months.
YouTube didn’t act sooner because it was focusing on misinformation specifically about coronavirus vaccines, said Matt Halprin, YouTube’s vice president of global trust and safety. When it noticed that incorrect claims about other vaccines were contributing to fears about the coronavirus vaccines, it expanded the ban.
“Developing robust policies takes time,” Halprin said. “We wanted to launch a policy that is comprehensive, enforceable with consistency and adequately addresses the challenge.”
Mercola, an alternative medicine entrepreneur, and Kennedy, a lawyer and the son of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy who has been a face of the anti-vaccine movement for years, have both said in the past that they are not automatically against all vaccines, but believe information about the risks of vaccines is being suppressed.

Why do people post stuff to a platform where their work can be disappeared overnight?
File a lawsuit. Time their legal protection be stripped and they be subject to defamation and libel lawsuits
Their argument for their legal protection is they are “just a posting site” and “do not edit for content”
Now that they have decided to get in the censorship game, they no longer can claim that legal immunity.
They need to take down Youtube. Banning people is increasing skepticism in the vaccine.
Correct. This makes them editors, not publishers. Puts them in an entirely different category as the videos they are removing are not illegal or are promoting anything illegal.
I don’t know about “taking down” Youtube.
But I agree all this creepy Orwellian censorship and heavy-handed mandates gives good reason to be skeptical.
People that lie all the time — about anthrogenic global warming, taxes, illegal aliens, Afghanistan, murder, child rape, — you name it are pushing this vaccine like nothing I’ve seen in my life.
Anytime anyone that consistently evil pushes stuff, I’m skeptical.
They have an agenda. I don’t know what it is.
But I know I oppose it, just based on the fact they’ve been wrong about everything, every time.
When people keep using a site even when that site censors then they deserve what they get. Stop using YouTube! Stop using FB. Stop using Instagram! It’s simple really. DUH 🙄
Censors throughout history have had one simple goal—ban anything that threatens the rich and powerful.
I’m permanently banned from FB for telling the truth. That is against the Community Standards.
THE ONLY THING GOVERNMENT PROTECTS IS ITSELF......................
Foolish move. People cannot un-see what they have seen and they will want to share the knowledge with others. Information which is censored makes it more likely to be shared with others.
When the truth becomes widely known of the deadly results of the jabs, youtube could be justifiably destroyed as a company for being a willing accomplice to genocide. Youtube employees could be hunted like former Nazis.
Where is youtube?
Why don’t we start there with what needs to happen?
Fakebook, Twitter, CNN, NBC etc?
I don’t get it.
Peaceful protest even?
Nothing but bitching on very same platforms until you get banned.
This sucks.
I foresee a massive class action suit by people injured by the vaccines. YouTube cannot be forced to publish everything but the act of taking down videos already published based on YouTube’s subjective judgment that they are misinformation is a whole ‘nother matter, it seems to me. This becomes censorship undermining informed consent.
I never click a Facebook or Twitter that people still send me for whatever reason. I do fail on occasion with YouTube and click/watch. I’ve heard there are browser extensions out there where if someone sends a YouTube, it’ll locate the identical video on another source. Wish I could remember their names.
I am using their argument against them. They say these videos are increasing vaccine skepticism. However, Youtube banning these videos is also increasing vaccine skepticism. So, if they were consistent, they would ban their complete website.
Youtube is a pfascist collaborator.
What about witches? Do they allow content about identifying witches so they can be burned at the stake?
I did not know “science” only had one point of view. Guess they never heard of a theory?
Well, you’re correct.
I am generally very supportive of vaccines. Take ‘em all.
Except this one.
Something is clearly wrong, or they wouldn’t hide information.
They don’t censor terrorists who want to eradicate Jews or Israel.......................
Screw YouTube, still not taking the jab. I lived just fine without it, will probably be just fine.
