Hospitals Overwhelmed?
734,551 Inpatient Beds 564,584 Inpatient Beds in Use 78,943 Inpatient Beds in Use for COVID-19
10.93% of Inpatient Beds in Use for COVID-19 with 5,480 Hospitals Reporting. Last Updated 9/29/2021
84,958 Staffed ICU Beds 66,956 ICU Beds in Use 20,908 ICU Beds in Use for COVID-19
25.75% of ICU Beds in Use for COVID-19 with 5,479 Hospitals Reporting. Last Updated 9/29/2021.
I am not arguing that the hospitals are overflowing. I will argue that hospitals are having a staffing issue. You could have 100,000 open ICU beds. But if you don’t have ICU staff, they won’t put people in those beds.
The problem with raw statistics is they don’t tell the entire story.
Our local hospital averaged about 100 openings at any given time. Right now they have 300. And, another 100 who will be let go if they don’t get the vax.
That is hundreds of beds that cannot be staffed.
Covid isn’t “causing” this per se, but it’s not helping.

Covid isn’t “causing” this per se, but it’s not helping.>>>> Covid is causing nothing (except disease) docs and politicians are causing the problems.
The federal government was never meant to control our nation’s healthcare system. To no one’s surprise, it’s completely failing at the job. I believe this whole pandemic is trying to further the federalizing of healthcare.
Also, just because there are empty beds, doesn’t mean an individual hospital isn’t overwhelmed.
A good percentage of it is the vaccine mandate. They are firing those not vaccinated. Supposedly they will be replacing them with nurses from foreign countries. In addition, they lost some due to adverse effects from the vaccine itself, and they offer no help with those adverse reactions either.
Covid, or something, is not helping. I say that because we know that the PCR test is the wrong test to be using because it gives false positives way too often. So, the true Covid patients can be distorted. The hospitals will mark them as Covid patients because they get paid more for those patients.
The NHS is the UK’s largest employer.
And the NHS has a staffing issue.
Let’s hear it for socialized medicine.
Clap for carers!
Wrong *HS....
Well, in my neck of the Upstate NY woods, Big Med is one of the largest employers.
And we still have staffing issues.
And for the same reasons the UK does.
What a coinkydink!
Open beds-—and the hospitals keep firing the staff who have worked for the last 20 months thru all the confusion.
IMO, IF you worked the past 20 months surrounded by very sick persons, you MAY have NATURAL IMMUNITY.
Just what we all need:
Nurses from foreign countries who cannot read/speak/write English dispensing drugs.
Thank you for posting. I was just looking for this after getting an accusatory email from my work’s executive office.
bkmk
I hear a little bird: cheap! cheap! cheap!
Even better for hospital administrators if they're here on some indentured servitude visa.
The oligarchy running the country will leave no stone unturned or let any crisis go to waste to drive down American wages.
But I do remember the female governor of NY is threatening to replace them with the National Guard. Does that kind of even it out? 🙂
I cannot argue with your post, as what you say is all too true.

285 of 1,550 on ventilators. Stay out of the hospital. 171 of those 285 are in Stl + KC so especially stay out of city hospitals. Even at our peak, remaining bed capacity never went below 15%.
Hm. My mom’s hospital recently shut down their ChinaVirus floors because they didn’t have the patient load to sustain it. No clue on any other ones in the area though.
