BOOK: Lindsey Graham told Trump he 'f'd up' the presidency
The Hill ^ | 09/26/21 11:42 AM EDT | BY JOSEPH CHOI

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) reportedly told former President Trump, "You f'd up your presidency" earlier this year when attempting to advise him to accept that he lost the 2020 presidential election.

This apparent bit of hard truth from the South Carolina Republican was shared on Sunday by renowned Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward while he was discussing his new book, "Peril," on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Host Chuck Todd asked Woodward and co-author and fellow Post reporter Robert Costa how they would characterize the attitude Graham and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows had towards Trump's refusal to accept the election results.

"We quote conversations between Sen. Graham and Trump in which Lindsey Graham says to Trump, 'You f'd up your presidency' at one point just a couple of months ago," Woodward said.

Woodward added that Trump hung up on Graham and then called him back a day later, at which point Graham said to Trump, "I would have hung up too."

"The core conclusion that Graham has is you lost a close election. Face it," said Woodward.

The Hill has reached out to Graham's office for comment.

Todd asked Costa if Trump believes he lost the election, noting that the authors quoted Trump as saying that if he does not continue fighting the election results, then he will lose his base of supporters.

"I've learned covering President Trump and covering politics, it doesn't really matter sometimes what people think — it's what they do — and to assume nothing," Costa said.

"In 2015, a lot of people said Donald Trump won't run. He'll never win once he announced in 2016. Well, he won and lost in 2020. He wants power back, our reporting in the book shows," Costa continued. "He's out there with this Churchillian-type language — 'We'll never surrender. We'll never give in' — whipping up thousands of people across the country."

He “lost” because of rampant voter fraud.

Trump's strength is with the White working class.

Biden had the support from the minorities. Women. Young millennials living in urban areas.

So all of a sudden, Trump does not have that much support. He was able to appeal to Cubans in Florida but that's nothing new (they're staunchly Republican as you already know).

Demographics are destiny.

You’re right. Demographics are destiny.

Which is why Biden has put out the welcome wagon on the southern border.

You and me both.

Woodward or Biden.

Although I’d probably get into a lot more trouble if I hit the...current occupant of the White House.

His strategy is to flood Florida and Texas with immigrants. Then it's game over for the United States as we know it.

There's one last option remaining. Florida and Texas should both secede while they still exist at present form. Another 4-8 years later, they'll become California.

Forgot to add, we used to have the Bush/Cheney wing in the Republican Party that was supported by the Wall Street. But they've all went to the Democratic Party since then. All of this took place in the post 20 years, Liz Cheney is probably the last remnant of this faction but she won't be there for long.

Moron. He got 12 million more votes than 2016. Increased percentage of minorities.

He was screwed. Stop listening to Clay and Buck.

The pickings were slim. How many non-swamp Republicans do you think there are in DC?

He was coming from far away. That’s why he was such a great president and why he couldn’t find his equals or even his kind, except for a few.

Maybe, maybe five in DC. “He came from far away” , why didn’t he bring his people with him? Think of Rudy at AG instead of Sessions, would have saved the country. None of this crap would have lasted past February ‘17. By the end Trump was still stuck on stupid, with Barr, Wray and Pence applying the final coffin nails.

What are you talking about? He did act normal and he actually gained voters.

Perhaps Biden should not have cheated to win instead of gaining voters with good policy.

He wanted Rudy for AG but Rudy wanted State. Remember? Rudy as Secretary of State?

If only he had known what would happen to his friend, Rudy might have agreed to AG.

He probably has the people now. But he was too trusting back then. Everybody just wanted the White House on their resume and then to show that they were actually smarter than Trump, but how could he know that? His greatness had its drawbacks: everyone wanted a piece of it but couldn’t really measure up.

Barr and Wray were the killers. They were the fixers. Wherever a fire broke out Barr buried it by farming it out to some Podunk US Attorney slow motion whitewash. Wray’s goons supplemented the Antifa/BLM street thugs. We all had ring side seats for the whole drawn out CF. It was obvious, what could Trump have been thinking?
