RHINEBECK – Marcus Molinaro, Dutchess County Executive for the past decade, is running for Congress, he officially announced on Tuesday. Molinaro, who ran against disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo will be challenging US Rep. Antonio Delgado to represent the 19th Congressional District.
In his campaign announcement, Molinaro said “I’ll be very candid with you all. I never thought Congress was the place where I could make the most difference.”
The Dutchess County Executive justified his bid for Congress, saying “Our nation is at a crossroads. Common sense, competence, and compassion are completely lost from decision-making, As a result, skyrocketing prices at the gas pump and grocery aisles are hurting working families, small businesses are closing not because they don’t have customers, but because they can’t hire workers, and Covid science has been discarded for partisan politics.”
Citing the current crisis in the Middle East, the longtime government servant also said “Public safety is threatened by shortsighted policies that undermine law enforcement, threaten victims and witnesses and even hurt the well being of offenders, an embarrassing and deadly retreat from Afghanistan has made America and New York less safe than any time since September 11, 2001.”
Molinaro denounced what he says is Delgado’s “silence” on issues including the Cuomo sexual harassment scandal and the Cuomo nursing home death cover-up, as well as what he perceives to be a neglect of children suffering because of politically-driven policies that do not accept science when it comes to the education environment.
“We didn’t hear a peep of protest. Not even a whisper of disagreement from our member of Congress,” Molinaro stressed.
Delgado’s campaign responded to the announcement from Molinaro, saying “As promised, Antonio Delgado has fought for our region day in and day out and achieved meaningful results. He has held 63 town halls and crisscrossed all 11 counties in our upstate district many times over.” The campaign touted what they consider to be Delgado successes, adding “He has had 12 bills signed into law under Democratic and Republican administrations and secured over $400 million in direct support for our counties, towns, and villages. He looks forward to continuing that work every single day.”
The NY-19 Congressional district encompasses Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster counties along with parts of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties.
Delgado was first elected to Congress in 2018 and was reelected in 2020.
He had waged a rather diligent gubernatorial campaign against Cuomo. New Yorkers still voted cuomonist, of course. But he does have a shot at pulling NY-19 district back into Republican possession.
I believe his family are never Trumpers.
Also- i disagree with the “diligent” campaign against Cuomo- he folded like a cheap suit- especially when il duce cuomo challenged him on President Trump.
And remember he was trying to get elected governor of New York.
Better any Republican than a Democrat. Watch the destruction Congress will rain on America in the next three weeks for want of four seats in the House and one seat in the Senate.
Big deal- he folded like a cheap suit. The debate was anything but- il duce cuomo made molinaro look like a child.
BTW- i stand corrected, its the Molinari family, the Bush klan of NY, that was outwardly never Trump.
The GOP needs to win NY18 from that POS Sean Maloney. That area is historically very conservative and Maloney is scum.
Trump won the district in ‘16 by 6 points. Delgado kept the seat by 3. Trump promptly lost by 1.5 in the mid-term, suggesting they’re a touchy electorate. Then there’s the 2 Obama wins and one by Clinton(’96), suggesting the left’s need for a king/messiah. If this is the best we can do we’ll have to run with him and hope redistricting doesn’t make it too difficult.
LOL- i know a clown when i see one and besides your pathetic replies, Molinaro was clowned by cuomo.
That is in large part because the GOP in NY is basically democrat lite. The rats approach politics like its a bloodsport, the GOP as though its a backyard game of badminton with grandma. That’s magnified 10 fold in NY.
I will say this- many of the independents have had it with the left in this state. At least this is whats happening in local school board elections (and i live in the Chappaqua area). We’ll see if it trickles up.
And if I'm a "clown", then you just got clowned, by an average guy on the internet.
Take a hike to Brazil.
Improve his message first. Basically he's saying he thinks he's better for higher office but what the heck, he'll lower himself and run for the House.
“And remember he was trying to get elected governor of New York.”
So act like a coward and don’t attack your opponent because you are running in NY. Typical of the types of GOP candidates here in NY and the way they approach politics.
Chele Farley and Keiran Lalor are twice the Conservative of this coward molinaro.
LOL; whatever those little voices in your head are telling you- vegan
You’re claiming he didn’t attack Cuomo?
You’re in outer space on that one.
“The NY-19 Congressional district encompasses Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster counties along with parts of Broome, Dutchess, Montgomery, and Rensselaer counties.”
These places have almost nothing to do with each other.
Some are ExUrb get-away 2nd/3rd home locales for NYC Money.
Some used to be big Milk producers dependent on the Milk Compac to make a living (that’s why the “sell as fresh” date is on the container).
Some had apples, apples, and more apples. But we get our juice concentrate from China now/ (Adams has the best cider, bottled in Milton) . . . Oddly enough, some grow onions and garlic (from China too, look at the little “Nets” of cloves), they have heavy soil for it.
Mostly just vast emptiness with little industry or economic strength. “Hobby” Farms and other vast tracts being bought up with Fiat Crazy Money.
Beautiful places, all crumbling from terrible Goobemrmint policy going back decades.
No vegan boi- i watched the debate and saw how he folded like a child as il duce cuomo owned him. Leave your echo chamber and embrace reality.
Sullivan county is also the home of Woodstock and there are still a lot of freaks in that area. Though i will say Bethel Woods is a great place to see a show.
I agreed Cuomo overpowered him in the debate. But the claim that Molinaro didn’t attack Cuomo is absurd. Especially on corruption and tax hikes.
That’s what I believed at one time. Not now. When the Republicans gain the majority they do nothing that I am impressed with. Some of them don’t even stop the Democrats when the Democrats are in the minority.
