President Joe Biden is expected to choose Omarova to run the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which supervises about 1,200 banks and federal savings associations, as soon as this week, sources told the news agency.
Omarova, a Kazakhstan native, currently teaches law at Cornell University Law School. In her academic work, she has argued in favor of policies that would tighten banking regulations across the board and give government a larger role in supervising the financial system, such as restructuring the Federal Reserve. She also has argued the central bank should provide consumer bank accounts.

National Investment AuthorityOmarova is noted for her support for a "National Investment Authority" (NIA),[8] a proposal she has likened to New Deal-era programs. The proposal was first developed in 2015 in conjunction with Robert C. Hockett, a fellow Professor of Law at Cornell Law School.[9] Omarova has stated that an NIA would be responsible for "devising, financing, and executing a long-term national strategy of economic development and reconstruction."[10]
The proposed NIA would be made up of two components: a "National Infrastructure Bank (NIB), as well as and a National Management Corporation (which she nicknames “Nicki Mac”), which would serve to invest in green technologies.[11] A 2020 article published in The New York Times reported that the proposed NIA would function in a manner similar to the Federal Reserve, and compared the NIA framework to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation created in 1932.[12]
Note that Robert C Hockett is AOC's advisor and designer of the Squad's "Green New Deal". So basically, one of the designers of the Green New Deal is about to be placed in charge of regulating banks.
Could very well be. It has to upset Wall Street, and they may stop supporting Democrats so heavily. That would be a good turn about. Oh, I must be dreaming yet again. 🙂
That’s all we need more Gov supervision. Crypto is coming. Fintech has been in play 4 years and MIT is currently working with Boston Fed to create a stable coin.
Like I posted above, my concern is more about her fantasy of a “National Infrastructure Bank” and “National Management Corporation” to support AOC’s Green New Deal, and how such a person would restructure the FED and regulate banks.
Reading her works, regulating Fintech seems to be her major focus, along with centralized economic and industrial planning.
