Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill into law Thursday barring social media companies from wrongfully censoring users "based on their political beliefs."
The new legislation aims to hold Big Tech platforms accountable in an age when many large platforms increasingly use their status as private companies to silence conservative voices without consequence.
Nice, Texas is a big market.
Does this have teeth or is election season coming?
Good
It may be hard to enforce but I do not think it is mere electioneering.
Penalties?
Does this mean Freerepublic will be filled with a bunch of Austin Texas lefties?
What’s hard about it?
Electioneering for what elections?
It means conservatives here will continue to clobber the far left crazies as usual. .
But that would mean people would have freedom of speech and expression. A shock.
Maybe there should be an ignore function, then they could post whatever they want but only other leftists would end up reading it.
Thats good Greg. The 14,000 under the Del Rio bridge and the rest of Texas will appreciate you giving this the highest priority in your state!
Abbott hates Gab. He wants that one gone as well.
Abbott is trying the fend off conservative opposition. Unfortunately, the conservative vote will be split between Huffines and West.
Abbott is the conservative opposition to Dementia Joe. Look at Abbott's anti Biden, anti ballot fraud elections reform law that he only recently signed.
Plus the anti big tech censorship of conservatives law in this OP.
Unfortunately, the conservative vote will be split between Huffines and West.
Dream on.
Good, but it will be ignored.
Across America, why aren’t downtown lunch counters bastions of racial discrimination? Because the Justice Department and federal courts decided that, as public venues, they were not allowed to racially discriminate on behalf of our community.
I’m not here to say that the tech giants are right or wrong in politically discriminating on behalf of our entire community. I’m here to say that THEY CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.
Discrimination against political speech is outlawed by the Constitution. Discrimination against race is not.
Why? That makes no sense; especially after signing this into law.
An argument could made that is true. Can’t have free speech without allowing hate speech. Then hate speech could be positive reinforcement or it could be hate speech depending where one stands on any given issue.
I agree with Gab. Now if it’s threatening that’s not free speech. There is a line there and I believe Gab tries to thread that needle as difficult as it is.
