How Dan Quayle Helped Convince Mike Pence Not to Overturn Election, According to New Book: 'Forget It'

While Mike Pence was lauded by Democrats — and widely criticized by the president and the Republican base — for his refusal to overturn the results of the election won by Joe Biden in 2020, it turns out that a different vice president may have been responsible for the decision.

In the upcoming book Peril, Robert Costa and Bob Woodward write that then-Vice President Pence reached out to 74-year-old Dan Quayle — who served as vice president from 1989 to 1993 under President George H. W. Bush — in the waning days of the Trump presidency.

"Over and over, Pence asked if there was anything he could do," Costa and Woodward write, suggesting that Pence was looking for a way to acquiesce to Donald Trump's demands that he reject the electoral votes legally-cast in Biden's favor.

According to the book, Quayle quickly put the kibosh on any effort to overturn the election, telling Pence: "Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away."

When Pence "pressed again," the authors write, he did so by explaining that he was under pressure from Trump. (A spokesman for Pence did not respond to a request for comment on Peril.)

"You don't know the position I'm in," he told Quayle, according to the authors, to which Quayle responded: "I do know the position you're in. I also know what the law is. You listen to the parliamentarian [who issues rulings about congressional authority]. That's all you do. You have no power.'"

Stop using that “overturn” bullsh*t. That’s enemy propaganda.

I’m just using the word that is in the title and you’re just playing semantics. If he didn’t certify the results it’s basically synonymous with overturning the election.

Lets keep things simple since apparently you require that:

Scenario: Romney wins the popular vote and the electoral college in 2012. Biden as VP then invalidates and selects his own electors. Obama is reinstated as President.

Now.... tell me what the reaction would have been.

Pence should have resigned prior to certification and thrown the whole process into chaos, which it already was in chaos.

Then the President-Pro-Tem steps in as President of the Senate and the vote goes on. Unless you really think Chuck Grassley would have done something?

We get that you love Biden. He’s your guy.

You get it wrong.

I admire your steadfastness against the tide here. You’re fighting a losing battle. You can’t reason a stubborn freeper out a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.They have a 100% purity test. Differing opinions are not allowed even if they’re backed up with facts.
I see they’ve responded with the old standby, you’re a Biden voter or a troll.

And at the time there were 50 Republicans and 49 Democrats. Ossoff wasn't sworn in until January 20th and Pence was still the vice-president till then. Leahy didn't become President-Pro-Tem unil January 20th.

No it isn't. It's demanding that the election be valid and not filled with fraud.

If you want to put in the words "fraudulent" after "overturn", then that would be fine, but using the word "overturn" to imply the election was legitimate is playing right into the hands of the enemy propaganda.

I’m a reasonable person with an open mind and totally willing to change my mind. Just give me the Constitutional quotes.

Fine. You first show me where the word "rifle" appears in this amendment.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

I know DiogenesLamp from other arguments on other topics. Let’s just say my opinion of him isn’t much different than his opinion of me, and it isn’t going to change.

Making you go away and stop spreading false ideas is a win in my book.

LOL! Well take your wins any way you can get them. You have so few to begin with.

You have to believe there was massive fraud in order to have people think you aren't ignorant.

It doesn't work with you.

Well you left out some details. Was there *MASSIVE* fraud in at least 5 swing states that illegitimately handed the election to Romney?

If so, Biden would have done the correct and proper thing, and those who committed the fraud would have been punished.

Now if on the other hand, there was no massive and serious fraud occurring in the swing states, and this was just a raw power grab by that idiot Biden, then the reaction would have been very bad for Biden, but eventually it would have resulted in Romney being put into the office anyway.

Still sounds to me like you are trying to compare a cheating election to a non cheating election.

"Physician heal thyself."

How could you have missed all the articles showing the different types of swing state fraud which occurred in the 2020 election process?

Pence could rule on his own that fraud had happened, ...

Yes, I agree.

I know of at least one example where that happened. In 1837, Martin Van Buren, the sitting Vice President who had just been elected President, declined to preside over the count, and so the president pro tem presided. That process also involved I believe was the only election of the Vice President by the Senate under the 12th Amendment.

What the h3ll are you talking about? There has only been *ONE* audit, and that has been in Arizona, and everything i've read from people who are familiar with it say that it proves massive fraud has occurred.

What is this "audit after audit" stuff that you're going on about?
