Well, if you’re going to get cancer, you might as well get a cute one. That’s what I always say.
If you’re going to get cancer, leukemia is probably one of the better ones to get. You just feel tired all the time, no pain.
My brother fought his leukemia for 10 years before it took him at 68, a few months ago.
I’m sorry for your loss. Cancer got both my parents and all of my grandparents. It will get me too. The more I learn about cancer, the more I don’t care for it.
leukemia is a brutal disease of all ages. I wish there was more that could be done.
My best friend died of a rare fast progressing leukemia. She underwent chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant but died within 15 months of diagnosis.
Until ya die.
norm’s battle with cancer was a draw.... rip
Of all the cancers, it’s possible it’s the easiest. But it still lingers, Norm lasted 9 years with it.
Heart disease can kill much fast, at older ages. Right in your sleep. I don’t know if there’s a ‘best way’ to go, but heart failure in your sleep seems pretty good.
A line I heard this weekend fits this loss.
"When someone is precious from God, they draw Satan's attention".
“Norm MacDonald, known for his intelligence and sarcastic wit, was 61.”
I like this description of him very much. I’m very sad that he died!
This is a good article, thanks for posting it! It sounds like he was very unlucky, he was an outlier developing the type of luekemia he had at the age he did.
RIP Norm McDonald, and G-d bless those who fight against cancer.
Just a reminder that blood cancer was one of the few charities supported by Rush with on-air appeals for donations with him giving a proportional match. Every year was a new high for giving and exceeding the goal. It’s probably tough for them to replace those donations.
> Norm MacDonald, known for his intelligence and sarcastic wit <
Yes, indeed. Norm MacDonald was unique, and he will be missed.
RIP
..... My father died of this ..... And my brother has it ......
Missing Norm already. Whether it was a podcast, a stand-up, or a guest shot on a talk show, Norm was, as the article says, vastly intelligent and a professor of snark.
The 35-minute collection of Norm’s SNL “Weekend Update” jabs at OJ on YouTube will leave you in stitches. It’s what got him removed from the “Weekend Update” desk. But he went on to become legendary.
The more I hear of this cancer, the less I care for it.
I have CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
Also developed MDS (AKA Pre Leukemia) which may or may not have been triggered by the multiple Chemotherapy treatments I received since I was diagnosed sixteen years ago.
The only symptom I had when I was diagnosed was Anemia.
I’ve known two people with Acute Leukemia, both who recovered.
One of them ended up having a Bone Marrow Transplant, the other responded to Chemotherapy.
If only homos got it at a higher rate than everyone else. Then, all kinds of money would be thrown at it for research and awareness, no mater what the outcome was.
Norm was a heavy smoker for almost 50 years (he stated that he started at about 14 years old). It is no surprise that he died of AML (could have been any type of cancer). He was a very funny guy and I’m sorry he’s gone.
