Gone Is the Romance of California

Perhaps if all the disgruntled voters who left California in recent years were still there to favor the recall of Gavin Newsom, his political career would have ended last Tuesday. During the 2010s, about 6.1 million people moved from California to other states, while 4.9 million came from other places to California.

The demographics of the leave-takers is unclear, but the new arrivals include many from foreign countries, along with wealthy corporate types who could afford the move. Declining birth rates among young people in California and more deaths due to the increasing numbers of elderly also played a part in lowering California's population

Such "exchange of prisoners," as it were, perfectly suits the goals of the Democrat party, which is to keep California a deep blue political stronghold and to strengthen its national clout by cosseting the minority and white liberal vote.

But while Newsom's team is crowing over the recall results, the fact is that the governor's support from minorities — 63% from people "of color"; 60% among Hispanics — represents the weakest showing a California Democrat has received in recent memory. And this should be cause for worry, at least behind the scenes.

I happen to be one of those who recently joined the exodus from what was once the Promised Land. During my fourscore years in California, I had left twice before to accept out-of-state jobs, in each case returning after about a year. For whatever reason, one becomes accustomed to the state's presumed "cutting edge," even if inflicts some lifestyle wounds.

It’s called the Curley Effect (after an early 20th century mayor of Boston, James Curley). Curley wrecked Boston’s economy and caused many to move out. But because the ones he made move away were the ones who would not vote for him, he kept winning elections.

A similar thing happened to Detroit under Coleman Young and other Democrat politicians.

Is it worth the air fare to California just to walk down Sunset Strip and join in with the homelss, sh*t and P*ss in the street along with them, and then fly home?

Defecation Tourism.

Have you sh*t and eat it too?

California is Bizarro world writ large. I would pay not to have to go there.

If I never set foot in that wretched state ever again, it will be too soon.

As California goes, so goes the nation.

But wait, perhaps the nation has already become California. Consider the 2020 election when a manifestly demented grifter replaced a president with a string of policy successes.

Governor Newsom successfully retains office by running against Trump and playing the race card. General Milley will undoubtedly skate because he was acting to defend the Republic against Trump. Big social media, big Hollywood, big media, big Wall Street and big sports have all mindlessly committed to Black Lives Matter, that is, they too have submitted to extortion and, not incidentally, they protect their rice bowls against Trump's efforts to protect us from China. Our venerable Supreme Court betrays a real distain for any of our rights that are also associated with Donald Trump.

There are many examples but as recently as the November 2020 election the Democrats, quit of part from fraud, prevailed by running against Trump and playing the race card.

Crucially, the political destiny of California has been decided by immigration and today there are 10,000 Haitians under a bridge waiting to invade America, but that is not a new story.

The downside of America becoming California is worse than bad government, worse than feces and needles in the street, worse than runaway inflation, it is that we will become a colony of China.

I’d live under a bridge in Florida before I’d live in a mansion in Kalifornia!

The outcome of Tuesday’s election might have been different if the voting had been strictly an up or down vote to recall the governor and not included the second vote for a replacement. A special election to elect a replacement could have been held in November.

I have a few places on my Bucket List to visit in CA. I am very seriously considering scratching them off. At the moment, I have no desire whatsoever to go to CA.

were still there to favor the recall of Gavin Newsom

I am of the opinion it would have mattered little. I lived there from 1998 until sometime in 2005. I was amazed at how easily that state (seemed to deliberately) facilitate voter fraud.

IMO, just as the 2020 election, the recall vote was rigged. IMO.

So much wrong/lies in the article.

It is pure bullcrap that California expats prevented the recall of Newsome. One of my motivations to leave California was that it is a one-party commie Democrat state and my vote was swamped. My vote didn’t count for my last 20 years in California. Registered Rats vastly outnumber registered GOP. That is why there is not a single statewide GOP office holder and scant few in the legislature.

Guns had NOTHING to do with the recall of Gray Davis. He was recalled solely on a massive and continuously growing budget deficit.

The Governor was a Republican in name only. He was a flaming liberal in every way but financially. Yes, he genuinely tried to fix California’s spending problems but the government unions crushed him.

California is doomed and rightly so. If every conservative Californian would leave and move to a swing state and save it with their votes, we could at least have a strangle lock on the US Senate and thwart the Rats nationally at every turn. Every California conservative casts a useless, worthless, wasted national vote every time.

Move to a swing state and save it.

My parents still live there. I dread every visit. Luckily I live in AL, however, the air travel getting to CA is a nightmare. I despise wearing masks.
