White House warns GOP of serious consequences on debt ceiling

The White House on Friday issued a memo to state and local governments warning of potential consequences should Congress fail to raise the nation's debt ceiling in the coming days.

Biden administration officials warned billions of dollars in state aid and federal funding for state-run programs could be stopped if a deal isn't reached, including disaster relief money, Medicaid programs and child nutrition benefits.

"The U.S. economy has just begun to recover from the pandemic and a manufactured debt ceiling crisis would threaten the gains we’ve made and the future recovery. If the U.S. defaults on its obligations, the ripple effects will hurt cities and states across the country," the White House said in the memo, which was obtained by The Hill.

It’s the one tool left to stop the communist takeover.
Do the Republicans have the will to do it?

When the current occupants of the White House warns about something dire if they don’t get their way, you can be sure that the best policy is for them NOT to get their way.

The debt ceiling was raised three times during Trump’s administration. Did the Democrats vote for those increases?

This ‘adm.’ thinks that governing is openly threatening the country. THAT'S not governing...and that's not ‘politics’. That's coercion and tyranny

No CEO on earth has even that much latitude

Children, disaster relief and Medicaid. I see they are holding the vulnerable among us as hostages to their demand. Why not bureaucrats, conferences, art grants, silly research on the chopping block first? This reminds me of a debate in a state I used to live where the education people promised if they didn’t get the increased money they wanted, they would cut kindergarten. As long as those demanding the money get to decide where it goes, the fix is in.

Serious consequences? If the consequences we’ve been dealing with for eight months aren’t deadly serious enough already, I don’t know the meaning of the word.
