(Reuters) - Health insurer Aetna Inc has been sued for allegedly discriminating against beneficiaries that are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other gender identity iterations (LGBT+) by requiring them to pay more out of pocket for fertility treatments.

In a proposed class action filed Monday in federal court in Manhattan, plaintiff Emma Goidel said she and her spouse were forced to spend nearly $45,000 for fertility treatments as a result of Aetna's policy, which required same-sex couples to pay for fertility treatment out of pocket before becoming eligible for coverage.

I would limit the treatment to heterosexual married couples who need some help.

Who’ll sue them for arbitrarily discriminating against the vaxx refusers? Aren’t insurance companies required to show an increased claim history or expenses to justify selective premium increases?

That ship has sailed. The sexual revolution made sure of that.

It's going to be more incumbent on Christians more and more to get into one of the Christian medical cost sharing plans. It's not insurance, so they can set the criteria they want.

Oh, yeah. I just think the whole thing falls into the category of just because it can be done doesn’t mean it should be done. There is wisdom in the way nature is designed to work.

There is something wrong medically with one of the spouses if a heterosexual couple cannot conceive naturally, so medical insurance covers it. An LBGTQ couple cannot conceive naturally even if there is nothing wrong with either spouse medically, so it isn’t covered.

It’s the difference between “sterility” and “impotence.” The former implies a “but-for” impediment to design, the latter implies complete inability - BY DESIGN.

The time-tested boy-girl conception thing can be done for the price of a nice meal and a show.

When you start trying to connect Ford parts to Toyota parts, the cost and complexity goes up sharply.

Fertility treatment need is largely driven by putting off having children until later in life. You can have it all mentality.

Lesbian couples, by default, would have to in vitro fertilization. So, it makes them more expensive to cover than couples that get pregnant the old fashioned way.

I don’t know why my insurance rates should go up, because a woman demands in vitro fertilization instead of getting pregnant via sex with a man.

If you love the same sex, procreation is out of the equation. The price for your vice.

Well...well...well...

I was married when I was a flight attendant. During contract negotiations, married flight attendants were penalized with a ‘social security offset’ which meant that since they were married and getting some of their spouse’s money, the company negotiated paying less to married people and the Association of Flight Attendants screwed us by agreeing to it- never mind that we could be divorced after we left the company, it still stands.

Gay and single people didn’t have this as they were apparently being penalized for NOT being allowed to get married or just being single.

Since gays can get married, this has not been changed retroactively and my pension is less than gay married people as a result.

That knife cuts both ways.

The sodomites are apparently "right" under current law and insurance regulation. Sorry, but that's so, though anything might happen in court.

That said, it seems to me these are people for whom fertility treatments should be flat out illegal. Or is that "eugenics"?

That’s not infertility, since they’re with someone of the same sex. Being with someone of the opposite sex and having actual sexual intercourse would solve that problem.
