Education in California is a tragic mess: Unless there is huge pushback against the left, America is over.

Those of us who grew up in California before it was taken over by the left were fortunate in that we actually got a good education.  We were taught all sorts of things not taught today; subjects like geography, for example.  Young people today hardly know in which hemisphere the United States exists.  This was true even back when Jay Leno was asking simple questions to people on the street many years ago.  Anyone who has seen any of the man-on-the-street videos of Jesse WattersMark Dice, and Ami Horowitz knows how shockingly ignorant young people are today, even, perhaps especially, on college campuses.

And they are never embarrassed by their lack of knowledge about the basics of American history.  They laugh at what they deem silly questions.  They have no idea who the colonists fought In the Revolutionary war or from whom we won our independence.  They have no idea in what century the Civil War took place.  They know little or nothing about WWII and the Holocaust.  Americans have become dumber and dumber and it’s all been part of a plan.  The dumber they are, the more compliant they are, the easier to manipulate.  Promise them free stuff and they will vote for you.  That’s the left’s long-term, regressive plan that they call progressive.

Newly minted teachers in California in 2021 face the wreckage that is education in this state.  High school kids have lists of words that if a teacher utters them, they can get them fired.  We all know how much great literature has been banned:  Huck FinnTo Kill a Mockingbird, Shakespeare.  They have banned the most treasured anti-racist books because they deem them racist!  That alone is proof of the inability of those in charge of curricula to think critically.

Those of us who know better are dying off. You want push back from the indoctrinated?

Good luck with that.

They cannot work a cash register because they often can’t make change!

Come on Patricia, only 4 out of 5 can't read, write or count. It was about 30 years ago now, that all the Fast Food Chains in California had to Replace all the Registers with ones that had PICTURES of the ITEMS on the Buttons to accomodate the Public High School Graduates.

We, as a nation, have turned from God. That doesn’t end well.

Civics! The Constitution! A test on the constitution was mandated to advance from 8th grade to High School.

I suspect they never mention and hide the Constitution as best they can now.

And this all started in Ca first, now it is nationwide.

The author my be the stupid one.

She thinks a kid with 74 IQ can learn all that stuff.

Anyone with that “every kid can succeed” attitude is equally stupid.

Home schooling and/or private schooling and let the public schools decay into worthless slime pits.

Oregone does not require math nor reading ability to get a high school degree. That creates a massive pool of unemployable voters for the dems.

Patricia:

I am guessing that you are much younger than I am.
I moved to So Calif in Feb 1964 & bought my first house in 1966, in the San Fernando Valley.

ALL I heard for years growing up in rural Wisconsin was how WONDERFUL the California schools were.

The 3 teenagers living next door to me were Calif natives.

NONE of them could make change for a dollar. NONE—even with coaching.

In those days, small items like bread & milk were not very expensive...(I was making about $6 an hour when I bought that house). If either of us ‘went to the store’, we checked in with each household to see if they needed anything.

IF I had them pick up something for me-—THEY COULD NOT MAKE CHANGE FOR A DOLLAR......

I attended a ONE ROOM SCHOOL-—8 grades-—14 kids—1 teach who had 2 years of college.

I realized quite quickly that I HAD A BETTER EDUCATION...

California had been given credit for a mirage.

The Poles only need to be able to:
1) Read simple instructional sentences
2) Count to 500
3) Obey their German masters.

- H. Himmler

I thought the curriculum sounded familiar...

When the tide turns with more being educated at home, we need to get our property taxes cut since the ‘schools’ will no longer be sucking money for rotten results.

Great time to open a private school. Church school. Home school cooperative. Do public schools receive funding based on number of students?

Even in the 60’s and 70’s education in California had issues. Whole word reading rather than phonics contributed to dyslexia . History was ‘Social Studies’ and math was ‘New Math’. Only later on in life did I realize they were trying to introduce higher math subjects like set theory to kids who needed to learn multiplication tables ! ( And Algebraic ideas way before they were ready for Algebra)

I have to warn you again, to not breath/inhale the California smoke in your neighborhood if you think that your property taxes will cut because of rotten schools are eliminated!:)

They will just officially become day care centers for 3 meals/2 snacks a day and a lot of recess outside.

Then, they will follow the Oregone system, where students get a diploma without being able to do basic math nor read nor write.

The so called teachers will stay home and monitor their so called classes with college students as proctors. They will continue to get paid and get raises.

The schools will maintain their high level of custodial, maintenance people and gardeners in spite of the number of so called students dropping each year.

So no/nada/ zero refunds for tax payers, just more increases in spite of less students each year.
