It used to be that “lifestyle choices” like the ‘swingers party attendance - (I doubt they just went to one !) would be grounds for precluding the hiring foe sensitive USG positions. That changed sometims in the late 1980s or early 90s. This and many other things are the likely consequqneces of that relaxation of standards!

I might agree with you....saying the late 90s were the evolutionary point. Up until that point, you were quiet if you did stuff like this. Last decade, if this showed up in your background...nobody would say much.

If you go look at pictures of this guy...bodybuilder type. Based on the violence demonstrated on his wife, if you did a steroid test on the guy....something might show up.

FBI needed to fire someone so he was it, and probably was just doing what he was just following orders.

Special Agent Richard Trask

Not sure why that name seems excessively familiar.

Background as F-16 crew chief, and in AF OSI...so not sure why. Maybe confusing with the actor or something.

I would think those that attend a swinger's party have pretty much sworn off any objective measure of right or wrong.

Maybe she was willing to do something with 'swingers' that she was unwilling to do at home. Maybe she wanted something after the party that was a bridge too far. I'll leave this to your imagination.

...defense lawyers representing the accused attempted kidnappers began planning their legal strategy, which includes attacking the credibility of the FBI agents involved in the case. The defense team also plans on alleging the FBI informants, including Trask, entrapped the defendants.

Hard to imagine the FBI stooping to that. Oh, wait, no it isn't.

The verbal argument later turned physical as Trask allegedly climbed on top of her in bed and repeatedly bashed her head into a nightstand, according to The Detroit News. She then reached for his beard to subdue him, but police said Trask grabbed her throat with both hands and proceeded to choke her. Trask stopped after she grabbed him by the testicles, the outlet reported. He then left their home.

I think we essentially agree just slightly different time-line. I just think it started earlier then the 90s. I have 40-some years in the defense business both inside and outside - as a contractor. Mostly retired now. I can remember the USG memos & security policy change documents on personnel particularly for SAP positions that opened the door. Anyone who had any people sense knew what the long term consequences would be.
