Bomb-sniffing dogs that were left behind at Kabul airport during the chaotic US withdrawal now work for Taliban contractors who rescued them from cages.
Dozens of dogs were discovered in US forces and Afghan police zones of the airport by employees of a company contracted to handle site security.
The workers are now training the dogs before putting them back to work as the airport gradually reopens following a month-long shut down after the Taliban swept to power on August 15.
While it is unclear who the dogs belonged to, many were found in the section of the airport that was used by American forces, and some were trained to sniff out explosives, their new handlers say.
The animals are among the remnants of the two-decade American intervention which ended with the hurried airlift of more than 120,000 people from Kabul in August. The dogs are now being fed, cared for and trained by Hewad Azizi, who works for a company handling security at the airport, and his colleagues at the security company's training centre, housed in two converted shipping containers separated by a weed-strewn strip of earth. He said he went out looking for abandoned dogs as soon as the last US soldier left.
'When I saw [the soldiers leaving] I went to save the dogs,' Azizi said at the training centre, which faces hangars that were used for US planes and military equipment.
He found 30 - half of them in the area that was controlled by US forces. More were found in zones that belonged to former Afghan police.

Tali-dogs.
“...’We train them to see how we can use them,’ explained Mohamad Mourid, a supervisor at the centre which operates under the umbrella of GAAC, the UAE-based company handling ground and security operations at the airport since last year.
‘We feed them, give them water, and clean them.’
Soon the dogs will be put to work as the airport, which shut for repairs after the evacuations, gradually reopens....”
but wait the dod said not MWD’s were left behind.
They’ve learned some about optics, whether BS or not.

These dogs may show God’s love to those ‘colleagues’; God has a great sense of humor (and LOVE).
I’m not sure that a culture that hates dogs is going to utilize them very well. Dogs are sensitive to these things.
Can America negotiate an exchange?
America would be willing to exchange biden/Harris for these bomb sniffers.
It would go down as the sniffer exchange. One sniffer for another sniffer.
Even if the dogs are no longer there, America would still send biden/harris.
Yay! Somebody rescued the dogs.
Muslims hate dogs because dogs hate muslems. Prolly has something to do with the dogs highly developed sense of smell.
Not buying it.
Not sure I totally buy the “hate dogs” thing. This is the country that gave its name to a breed (Afghan Hound), albeit perhaps very stupid, and much of the Arab world has as well.
Also have happened on Arab videos of dogs when searching YouTube for German Shepherd films!
“While it is unclear who the dogs belonged to...”
Like that even matters now.
Hopefully these dogs will be so thankful the will show their love to these people and maybe change some hearts and minds
I thought Muslims hated dogs. ?
But apparently, if they are useful?
In any case, I feel bad for the dogs. They probably miss their handlers and are probably not being loved or cared for as they would by Americans.
Well, dogs are perceptive enough to bite White House denizens. There’s that going for them.
Well maybe some good will come of this, Moslems will learn to at least tolerate dogs.
Hair splitting weasles trying to make a bad thing go away at the time. They are DoD Contractors’ working or rescue dogs, not technically military.
unpossible, they said they got them ALL out, along with all the Americans...
wait, nevermind
It's kind of a mixed thing. Ask them if you hate dogs so much why do you keep Afghan Hounds and Salukis. They will respond that Afghans and Salukis are not dogs.
Arab sheiks who keep large kennels of Salukis and take them out hunting in the desert explain that Arabs don't like things that are useless. Now at the top of that list might be oil sheikhs who keep large kennels of decorative dogs and treat them better than they do humans, but I digress.
