Your post explains why we need really high import tariffs.

In a a naval conflict it’s not as important how many ships you have at the beginning of the war it’s how many you have at the end...

In a race to the bottom, who will win, china, or the USA? Who will self-destruct first?

Aaaaand, another troll self-identifies.

There's this thing called "honesty" and "quality". China doesn't have it.

What we buy from china that is substandard is not due to china being substandard but what the corporations want. Cheap goods with zero lifespan. That is they are requesting.

You are so clueless it is scary. China is leading the world in nearly every industry. They are investing more in AI and have more AI advancements than any country including the US.

Again they had more patents last year than every country in the world combined inlcuding the USA

Exactly right. The more problems at home and losing face internationally leads to a more dangerous China and dangerous world. Especially with a United States led by a moron with a child national security team.

Deloitte? In the Wall Street Journal?

No, they don’t have even the slightest bias towards globalization and trashing the US, not even a bit.

The Liaoning class (type 2) is the “training wheels” attempt

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_aircraft_carrier_programme

Type 3 (under construction) will have electromagnetic catapults (probably using stolen US technology). They may be able to retrofit catapults on the Type 2’s

Type 4 will be nuke powered.

It was interesting to read the chart showing 28% of world manufacturing is done in China vs. 16% in the USA.

While at first that statistic seems alarming, from a U.S. consumer's point of view, China's lead is far less significant because the lion's share of what Americans spend is on US goods and services.

I found some 2016 Bureau of Labor Statistics data on U.S. household expenditures and there's a lot of interesting stuff to examine there.

Here's a summary of the major spending categories. These are expenditures that exclude the paying of taxes which were $17,353 -- and would be the second leading category if Taxes was included. Social security payments are part of the personal insurance and pensions segment.

This is based on a household with annual income of $74,664 and 2.5 people in the family, 1.9 cars, and 1.3 earners.

While food is a big Chinese product, particularly for Asian Americans, and the making of clothes & shoes (apparel) is also a high point, Chinese are lacking in big categories such as cars where the Japanese and Germans excel.

Another point to keep in mind is that the mark up of Chinese goods is tremendous, enabling Target, Walmart, Amazon, and the rest of the retailers to make a handy profit which, in part, produces jobs. Could clothing stores make a profit without the big markup they get by selling Chinese & Asian manufactured apparel?

In difficult financial times many countries defer to war to change the subject.
Hey folks, even though our economy is in the dumpster look over here at those nasty Americans. Our problems are all their fault.

Thanks poconopundit. The 28% figure also looks worse than it is because China has 1/7th of the world's population.

Assertion is correct but your conclusion is flawed. Social credit requires nearly all the population committed to raising their social credit.

There is a gigantic segment of the critical young adult male population in China that just no longer cares, they game from home well into their thirties, few girlfriends if any, watch pirated first-release movies online with their gaming buddies on Twitch, lose interest after 20 minutes and switch back to gaming. Most have at least command of one useful programming language but they don't give a rat's ass about 996 or communism or anything but that next dopamine hit sitting in that Y10000 Embody gaming chair in front of that ROG Swift 43" 4K gaming monitor.

They couldn't care less about getting on a plane or even crossing town. And Uncle Xi has banned new games lofl and restricted their gaming times lofl lofl.

And I say we should flood China with as much rancid gaming and pop culture as they flood us with garbage and fentanyl. F--- China right in the face.

Good point, SunkenCiv. I think we have something in common. We like well-researched data!

Properly considered, reliable trend data on life here in the US or A is one of those things we conservatives should be on top of, and spreading around. You can be sure that the mainstream media will white wash this stuff.

And it didn’t escape me that the BLS didn’t consider taxes and “expenditure” — they didn’t want to draw attention to it!
