George W. Bush just threw a whole lot of shade at Donald Trump
CNN ^ | 09/13/2021 | Chris Cillizza

(CNN)The man who was president during the attacks of September 11, 2001, used a speech commemorating the 20th anniversary of that terrible day to call out the "malign force" coursing through the country thanks to the presidency (and post-presidency) of Donald Trump and offered an alternative vision for his party and the country.

George W. Bush gave the speech at the Shanksville, Pennsylvania, site where Flight 93 was brought down -- thanks to the heroics of the passengers who revolted against their hijackers. Here's the key bit (bolding is mine): "In the weeks and months following the 9/11 attacks, I was proud to lead an amazing, resilient, united people. When it comes to the unity of America, those days seem distant from our own. A malign force seems at work in our common life that turns every disagreement into an argument, and every argument into a clash of cultures. So much of our politics has become a naked appeal to anger, fear and resentment. That leaves us worried about our nation and our future together."

The party has no real interest in what its voters want. It only wants our votes and our money, not our principles and values.

This can't be repeated enough.

It hurts me to say that his critics were probably right about him.

Maybe I should have voted for Algore instead or better still, just benched myself that election.

That way I wouldn’t have any responsibility for what he did then and says now.

I could have spared my self the embarrassment of defending him back then, too.

Oh well … too soon old, too late smart, I guess, but I still have to pray for the man.

That may be the ultimate scenario that plays out. I sure hope so because the Dems are rapidly destroying this country. We don’t have any time to waste.

The way I look at it is, right now, we don’t have a party fighting for us. Just one that says it is.

Nice of you to be concerned CNN considering all the “shade” you threw at Bush and undermined the war effort every step of the way. He cowered and changed the rules of engagement in the face of your coverage.

A malign force? The people of the United States discovered their ‘elites’ were selfish, self serving ‘white trash’...

What has been seen can not be unseen....

I don't think so...You did what millions of us saw as the only way open. Conservatives are always going to be fighting to reach consensus. Rugged individualists are not easily molded into a political force. But liberals, slaves to emotion, are easily herded in one direction, when all the chips are on the table. As it has often been said, trying to vector conservatives is like herding cats.

Yep, that is always going to be our biggest problem.

Bush didn’t specify who he was talking about. He should have.

I’ve been disapointed with W since around 2005/2006 when he absolutely refused to stick up for himself, and by proxy, his supporters. It just got worse from there.

That said, nothing in this speech was anti-Trump. That’s CNN making stuff up and being the exact thing W was speaking against.

Can anyone deny the following?

“A malign force seems at work in our common life that turns every disagreement into an argument, and every argument into a clash of cultures. So much of our politics has become a naked appeal to anger, fear and resentment.”

I’ve had to leave social media completely because of this malign force. You cannot discuss anything without it becoming an angry filled politically driven argument that reads so much like a 2nd grader’s argument over nothing: “Yeah, well your source is a poo poo head. - No, you are a poo poo head.”

It’s disgusting. That’s not due to Trump. If you agree that Bush is throwing shade at Trump with this - you either believe it yourself, or are projecting your feelings of W onto the speech. Neither of those are good things.

It used to frustrate the he11 out of me...But I know that rugged individualism is responsible for this nation’s existence, and it will be the only thing that saves us.
