They should at least have some facilities available in case the baby is born in a difficult way..like with umbilical cord wrapped around neck...or narrow pelvic opening and wide shouldered baby...etc....many babies and mothers die during childbirth without help but if is too horrible and tragic to talk about it..of course, most tragically, if one outrightly kills their child before childbirth, then they are a heroine and greatly to be praised.
They can deliver the babies....they are so smart...piece o’ cake...

I’m not sure whether this is very common in the US now - it seemed to be a trend among some people 30 years ago.
But at the time, the midwife WAS in touch with emergency services and doctors.
