A legitimate purpose of the criminal justice system is to deter illegal conduct. She abused her office to publicly disclose private financial and other data.

Her actions were stupid. Banks are required to file suspicious activity reports with the government, and wait to hear back - that’s how the anti-money-laundering system works. If the government tells them to close the account, then they close the account. If the government asks them to help investigate, they help with the investigation.

In a sane world, Republicans in Congress would not have allowed this.
In an insane world, a group of folks would descend on the prison and get her out and she’d be treated as a hero.

This whole Buzzfeed series about this woman is typical of standard, leftist “narrative” journalism.
Its long on story-telling - mood, setting, character development, conflict, emotional investment - and short on pure facts.
The d'OHJ went after her instead of shutting down the crimes she was reporting.

No it’s not. Treason requires there to be collusion with some foreign enemy. Just leaking documents to a domestic journalist is not going to meet that standard.

Except maybe that the government knows the full scope of global money laundering operations and still does nothing to stop them... that might be a little bit of information valuable to the “public interest”.
