Afghanistan crisis: How Europe's relationship with Joe Biden turned sour
BBC ^ | September 2,2021 | By Mark Lowen

At a Nato summit in May 2017, the French president dug his fingertips into President Trump's hand, staring him in the face. "It wasn't innocent", Mr Macron later said. "In my bilateral dialogues, I won't let anything pass."

Roll forward four years to the recent G7 summit in Cornwall, Joe Biden's first as US president, and again Mr Macron grasped the moment. As the cameras snapped, he walked across the beach with his arm around Mr Biden. The body language shift was clear: the two sides arm-in-arm once again.

But in capitals across Europe, from London to Berlin, Afghanistan has soured the sweetness of Joe Biden's honeymoon. It's not the fact of the withdrawal itself that has rankled but the US's lack of coordination with allies, particularly since the Nato mission at the time of the drawdown comprised troops from 36 countries, three-quarters of whom were non-American, leading to an international scramble to evacuate.

The German deployment in Afghanistan was its first major combat mission since World War II, so the frustration at how it ended runs deep. Armin Laschet, Germany's conservative candidate for chancellor ahead of elections later this month, called the US withdrawal "the greatest debacle that Nato has experienced since its foundation".

Czech President Milos Zeman labelled it "cowardice", adding that "the Americans have lost the prestige of a global leader".

"Expectations were very high when Joe Biden came in - probably too high, they were unrealistic," Carl Bildt, Sweden's former Prime Minister, told the BBC. "His 'America is back' suggested a golden age in our relations. But it didn't happen and there's been a shift in a fairly short period of time. The complete lack of consultations over the withdrawal has left a scar."

Yeah, Trump was going to cost us all our allies.

Another example of projection.

No, they didn’t like Trump because he told them how things were going to be whether they liked it or not. They thought they’d like Biden better because he talked like America and they were equals, some thing that wouldn’t cross Trump’s mind.

They soured on Biden when he didn’t bother to tell them anything. Oh, we’re leaving Afghanistan on August 31. You guys are on your own getting your people out. On top of that they saw how feckless Biden is when every world leader expressed outrage and condolences over the loss of our troops, Biden perhaps being the last ‘world leader’ to make a statement that day.

They claimed Trump was such a problem for our allies.

It took this dope 5 minutes to totally offend our allies.

"Expectations were very high when Joe Biden came in - probably too high, they were unrealistic,"

What dossiers on Joe Biden did these clowns read--or what lies were they told about him--that gave them any reason to have "very high expectations?"

If these world leaders were optimistic about biden, it doesn’t reflect well on their perception.

Trump was a problem for our allies because he called them out and demanded they get off their asses and act like respectable States.

None of our allies can trust Biden since he just lied to them and then abandoned them. Democrats are the existential threat the USA faces today and they now target us openly. I saw a video of LiberalHivemind about ANTIFA shooting a Trump supporter in Olympia WA, and you can check it out in crawler link top of page at Whatfinger News. And they did it as MSM calls us “American Taliban”. No, the left are! We fought those there now Dims arm some and import the rest here. The real shock is that Europe caught on so quickly (it hasn’t even been 8 months yet...since January 20 at noon).

No, Joe’s fellow commies in the EU despised Trump because he stood up to them when they tried to take advantage of us.

With allies like those we didn’t need enemies. They were always looking to put one over on us, and squeeze just a little more from America’s pocketbook.

Birds of a communist feather stick together. The countries might now be openly, but the ‘ruling’ governments act so.

Disgust here. All of these “leaders” decided that Trump was to be discarded and danced when he was defrauded of another term. They got what they wanted, or thought they wanted. Now it doesn’t look so good. To hell with all of them.

I'm sure their dossiers showed that SleepyJoe would just give in to their demands, similar to other Presidents (obviously not Trump). Those were their high expectations, back to business as usual, as long the big guy got his 10%. They didn't have any real expectations beyond that.

They actually didn't expect that he would literally hang everyone out to dry without any warning, including “his own”.

Welcome to the party Eurotwerps!

“..No, they didn’t like Trump because...”

Foreign affairs of world Governments are all handled by their diplomatic corp and they all have a sameness. They may speak different languages but they say and think the same. They all think their excrement doesn’t stink. They are all out of the same mold.

Then comes along a man like Donald Trump who doesn’t know their diplomatic language. He is a businessman used to buying, selling, trading and straight talk. He’s not one of them and since no one is smarter than them they think he can be controlled but quickly learn it is the other way around. He is in control and they are suddenly at a loss on what to do and how to respond to the Trump doctrine - MAGA.
