Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Thursday the House will vote on legislation to codify Roe v. Wade in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to deny an emergency appeal filed by abortion providers to block the Texas heartbeat bill.

Pelosi blasted the 5-4 ruling made Wednesday evening to uphold Texas’ new policy to ban the procedure after six weeks and allow for individuals to file civil suits against abortion providers or those who help facilitate abortions.

“The Supreme Court’s cowardly, dark-of-night decision to uphold a flagrantly unconstitutional assault on women’s rights and health is staggering. That this radically partisan Court chose to do so without a full briefing, oral arguments or providing a full, signed opinion is shameful,” she said in a statement.

Is allowing abortion part of interstate commerce now, Nancy? (Like she would even understand the question).

‘“The Supreme Court’s cowardly, dark-of-night decision to uphold a flagrantly unconstitutional assault on women’s rights and health is staggering.” I guess “we have to pass the bill so we can see what is in it” didn’t meet those guidelines either.

So, it took them almost 50 years to get around to this. They must not trust what the SCOTUS will do next.

Six weeks is not enough for them. They want to be able to kill the baby after it’s born.

How about codifying “my body, my choice” for people who don’t want to be coerced or forced into taking iffy therapeutics passed off as vaccines?

Hopefully her threat will inspire some other states to hurry up and add restrictions to their state abortion laws.

While the bill is likely to pass the lower chamber, it faces a narrow path in the Senate, which requires a 60 vote threshold for passage.

What a witch. a year and a half to go.

The Dims will have to do more than that.

They’ll have to get a Constitutional amendment “codifying” abortion in the Constitution, and that’s not going to happen.

Scalia was right. The Federal Constitution is “mute” on abortion, neither mandating abortion as a “right” nor blocking states from making it legal, nor blocking states from regulating it.

The nation would be better off it abortion was not a federal issue and Dims quit trying to make it one. Some states would have more Liberal abortion regulations and some more restrictive, and the nation could remain unified in its diversity on the issue.

Pelosi accusing anyone else of cowardliness is quite an amusement.

it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with, and then the Texas counter.

I have never understood why they don’t codify that human life starts at X days\weeks from conceptions as evidenced by Z. And that once the date threshold passes the baby is considered a human being and has all the rights thereof, including the right to live and\or not be deprived of its life without lawful due process. Further, anyone who does deprive a baby of its life unlawfully is guilty of capital murder and will be charged, judged, and sentenced accordingly, with this applying to both mother and physician.

is there some legal reason they can’t do this?

What part of “States rights” confuses Democrats?
Texas laws aren’t the business of outsiders.
