CNN: 50th US Capitol rioter pleads guilty as Justice Department approaches 600th arrest in massive criminal investigation

The Justice Department on Wednesday secured its 50th guilty plea in the January 6 insurrection, a key milestone as it nears its 600th arrest in the massive investigation.

In the eight months since the attack on the US Capitol, the investigation has ballooned into a nationwide manhunt for the Trump supporters and right-wing extremists who stormed the building and grounds, assaulted dozens of police officers and temporarily halted the certification of President Joe Biden's victory.

Nearly 600 people from 44 states and Washington, DC, have been charged in federal court, according to CNN's latest tally, with authorities announcing new arrests on a near-daily basis.

The 50th guilty plea was finalized Wednesday in DC District Court when Abram Markofski pleaded to a misdemeanor. He admitted that he traveled from Wisconsin to DC, attended then-President Donald Trump's rally and then illegally breached the Capitol building. Prosecutors are working to resolve many of the lower-level cases, and most of the 50 guilty pleas are for nonviolent rioters. Meanwhile, cases are progressing against defendants who allegedly attacked police or are members of right-wing extremist groups, like the Proud Boys.

Some of the federal judges overseeing recent guilty pleas have wondered out loud why rioters aren't being forced to pay more in restitution to repair $1.5 million in damage to the Capitol, and have questioned whether rioters are showing enough remorse for undermining US democracy.

FU CNN: Coercing a guilty plea out of these browbeaten defendants means nothing. Most of them misdemeanors.

Also as for the judges in the video they quote Judge Amy Berman Jackson.

REMEMBER her from the Stone case?

The rock-solid 50th misdemeanor on the heals of 9 months of political persecution.

Nice work, DOJ — you guys are amazing!

...and have questioned whether rioters are showing enough remorse for undermining US democracy.

It took two people to write that crap.

It’s obvious what the Dem game plan is: going for as big a body count as they can get. Nevermind these 1/6ers are all pleading guilty to jaywalking inside the capitol, basically.

So far, quite a collection of pithy comments in #1-7.

Good work!

Yep. Get that count high . Makes for great misleading headlines. A Rush says, it’s not about you actually doing anything wrong, but it’s about the seriousness of the charge. When Trump runs again, the msm will drag these numbers and all the videos out to pound on Trump.

“...to repair $1.5 million in damage to the Capitol.”

I guess they are having the Unions repair the damaged windows and scuffed up marble floors.

I say make these protestors pay like those BLM protestors had to pay for burning down Minneapolis!

And the WH security guard interviews on national TV smug un apologetic and parades himself as a victim in the killing of an unarmed American veteran protester who he shot point blank dead and is exonerated by the DOJ

President Trump needs to make an example out of all DOJ members associated with this farce…..an ugly example.

I would bet my last dollar that CHRIS WRAY is the brains behind this treasonous act of malicious justice.

He is the sneakiest SOB who ever lived, let alone became FBI Director.

He is vindictive in his heart. Nothing worse.

“ most of the 50 guilty pleas are for nonviolent rioters”

IOW, the fools that had no intention of really doing anything and just walked in with the crowd.

So glad to see so many resources are being wasted on these awful criminals.

Since when is insurrection a misdemeanor?

$1.5 million in damage? Can we see an accounting of the damage? HELL NO.

I remember a few years back when an actual insurrection in Wisconsin actually prevented the legislature for working and caused $20 million in damage to the capitol building. What I don’t remember is if any of the insurrectionists were prosecuted.

The comparison is really quite interesting.

Many in the antifa and BLM groups have specific plans. They prepare for what they do. They know how they are going to be destructive. Bricks and other weapons are planted. They learn how best to taunt police. And they do it repeatedly night after night. And a few even travel around to get things going at different sites.

But many of these January 6th people were legitimately just caught up in the moment. A mob in the truest sense. And many of them did nothing more than walk into a building. Is that really something that deserves harsh punishment? Would that kind of otherwise normal person not be scared straight by an overnight stay and a fine?

It’s crazy. And it’s sad.
