Editorial - Baltimore lawsuit could stop mayors from empowering violent rioters and antifa
Washington Examiner ^ | 01 September 2021 | Washington Examiner Editorial

In the summer of 2020, the increasingly partisan and left-wing corporate media refused to acknowledge the nation was being consumed by violent riots. Because there were thousands of protests, many of them lawful and small, the media chose to call them “mostly peaceful” — even though several hundred large protests were documented as violent riots....

...In many cities, mayors and police chiefs deliberately had their police patrols stand back and let the damage happen. They wanted to give the rioters, including the violent fascists ironically known as antifa , room to wreak havoc, set buildings on fire, and beat up anyone caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Those mayors and city leaders may soon regret that decision, thanks to an obscure federal court decision handed down last week. ...

What would happen here....unless the Supreme Court does something, if your business burned down in an Antifa riot (depending upon the state law)...you (the business owner) could sue the city for allowing the riot to get out of control.

So the hint here, if you think about it...insurance companies holding contracts with municipalities would write up a new risk situation (with much higher fees for insurance). A city manager could be viewing doubling or even tripling of a yearly rate. Add onto this, a insurance policy for one year might only extent to 25-million in total damages. So if you had sixty businesses destroyed and it went to 50-million in damages....the rest would come out of the city budget or borrowed money from banks.

Just an observation, but various city financial officers are going to freak out over these riots allowed to occur. City property taxes would have to massively escalate, if you wanted to maintain any stability.

They won’t freak out too much until they personally are being held responsible for the payouts.

They won’t freak out on personal responsibility, because there is none. It’ll just turn into a city responsibility and hunting for cash (from the insurance companies and eventually banks). But in this process, you are anchoring the cities with massive debt which could take years to pay the bank loans back. It’ll leave the cities in financial jeopardy and no clear way to handle future issues that arise.

If I lived in any of these cities with this ‘threat’....I’d put my house up for sale and leave for accommodations beyond the city limits, because property taxes will going to escalate in a harsh way.

The Feds would just write a check to cover the damages. This administration has already set up a federal money-pump that move tax revenues from red states with functioning economies to blue states who wish to continue the Covid shutdown charade.

So according to the article, the judge ruled that the city knew it was coming, and did nothing until AFTER all of the trouble hit. So the city should have done a lockdown to prevent violence and destruction, while allowing actual "peaceful protests" to proceed. Almost like requiring adult behavior.

Seems optimistic to expect democrat minority politicians to act responsibly. They have come up through the ranks as variations of community organizer, so there have never been expectations of adult behavior for them. Sounds like soft bigotry.

At least the voters got what they voted for. So they got that going for them.

You said: “Just an observation, but various city financial officers are going to freak out over these riots allowed to occur.”

My point is that they aren’t going to freak out until/unless they personally are held responsible - either through their personal finances or through losing their jobs. Good luck with either, anything less they won’t care about. :P

“My point is that they aren’t going to freak out until/unless they personally are held responsible - either through their personal finances or through losing their jobs.”

Home rule states likely have recall options to remove elected city and county board members (including the mayor).

This requires so-called conservatives to get off their fat, useless asses to circulate recall petitions to remove all manner of elected communist/fascist scum in their localities. The recall of elected scum is very effective when used.

Add in an elected pro-2nd amendment, constitutional sheriff and you have the legal and armed muscle to protect your family and community from leftist weenies.

I exited State Farm Insurance after 30 years with them, because my rates went up after the Baltimore riots. I live outside the Baltimore city limits 20 miles from the riot site, but my State Farm agent's assistant slipped up and said, "We have to pay for the riot damages."
